I'm looking for an apt in the northern virginia area but my credits bad and I make 70K. How much of a problem will I have finding and getting the apt?

It is going to depend on the individual apartment. Some apartments put more weight on credit scores than others, and some put more weight on income. I think if you can prove your income, your credit should not hinder you from getting into an apartment.
The best thing you can do is find the apartment you are interested in and apply. The worst they can do is deny you, but most likely that won't happen.
