101 San Fernando is all about downtown living. Any city's downtown has pluses for ease of access to shopping, restaurants and business and in this case San Jose State University. Access to public transportation is easy and 101 San Fernando is in the heart of the historic section downtown. Downtown also has its minuses: a large student population means a little noisier community inside and fire and police responses mean a noisier outside. I really like this unique contemporary living arrangement within Japan Town and the great coffee and restaurant places all right here. The apartment layouts are modern and well thought out and the semi-industrial location is in a great spot in San Jose. I have lived in all kinds of apartments in various kinds of locations...downtown, on town outskirts, in refurbished industrial and in refurbished historic. Esplanade is better than downtown because it is in a quieter location but it has all the same kind of features. While the safety of the neighborhood is compromised due to the area's population and the close proximity to St. James Park, the community of Villa Torino itself is considered well kept. Teske's Germania Restaurant-Bar & Beer Garden is within seconds from the complex and is as exciting as it sounds with Oktoberfest Events and hearty dishes. Of course, the Japanese American Museum is just a step away from the building, but other cultural facilities including the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies and the Rosicrucian Order are also nearby. The Alameda Gardens is located just down the street from several public transportation stations; the Caltrain, Amtrak, and AceRail are all less than a mile away. Grocery shopping is simple with Alfredo's Produce right outside the complex and Trader Joe's and Safeway both within the neighborhood. HP Pavilion is half a mile away from the apartments and is home of the Sharks and the Sabercats - come watch a hockey match or football game on the weekend, or catch big-name artists that stop by the pavilion.
