Review for Glen Oaks Apartments

I've lived fairly happily at Glen Oaks for the past year and a half, and never really had too many problems... Until now! I'm not exactly sure what has changed, but the management is still the same (as far as I know) and the staff is the same people as well.

The problem I've had is that my upstairs neighbor's hot water heater burst and water was leaking in through my ceiling fans, light fixtures, and even some of the wall outlets! I immediately shut off all of the breakers to the apartment to avoid electrocution and was then told by our "maintanence man" that I didn't have to turn off the breaker for the AC. So I turned it back on and immediately had smoke fill up the apartment from a blown transformer in the AC unit.

He "fixed" the AC, but never replaced the air filter which had been drenched from our earlier indoor rainy season.

The apartment manager (Shirley) scheduled some carpet people to come and "clean" the carpets. Well, according to the people who came to clean the carpets, the manager (Shirley) had told them NOT to remove and replace the pad under the carpet and she allegedly also told them NOT to clean any areas of the carpet other than the specific spots which had water pouring on them from the ceiling.

So, now our apartment smells horrible from moldy/mildewed carpet which was never cleaned properly and the manager refuses to assign us to a new apartment unit. I have also asked about being released from the lease agreement due to the shoddy work and lack of acceptance of responsibility regarding the incident and was denied that as well.

All total, I was unable to live in my apartment for a total of 7 days and 6 nights, and was also denied any sort of "pro rated" rent.

The carpet people did a horrible job of putting the carpet back down after removing the blowers they had used for 4 days @ 24hrs/day (hooked into OUR electricity mind you), and the seams of the carpet are highly visible as well as there are tons of staples lying all throughout the carpet where they pulled up the carpet.

All in all, I would say that the apartments were GREAT until something happened that needed their attention... Then they turned out to be absolutely HORRID!

It is as if the manager wants an apartment complex which needs no care whatsoever... If you had asked me a couple of weeks ago if I would have referred them to a friend, I would have told you yes. However, now that there HAS been a situation in which attention was needed and responsibility should have been accepted and wasn't... I see the true nature of the manager's viewpoint on how apartments should work and therefore I would NEVER recommend these apartments to anyone.
