When I decided to rent an apartment at Highland Pointe of Maumelle, I really expected something very nice.

I have lived there since November 2004 and it has been hell since the first day.

When I first moved there, I was given an electronic key. I was supposed to be able to just slide it in this slot in my door and the door would open. Not so. I explained to a staff member that I was having trouble with the key. It was obvious this irritated her very much as she walked with me to my apartment and stood there trying to show me what to do. Well, turns out, I had to hold the knob with my left hand while trying to "jimmy" my door open with this electronic key that was suppose to make entering my apartment easier. It turned out that a lot of people were having trouble with their keys. Now, keep in mind this is supposed to be a "luxury" apartment community. My story gets even better. On Friday, December 10, 2004, pest control was in my building. A staff member was responsible for letting them in the apartments. When I got home on Friday evening, my door was wide open. Immediately I ran down to the office and told the leasing agent that my door was left wide open. All she said was, "uh oh." This is the same leasing agent who was so "excited" about getting me to move there. Now all she can say is "uh oh." She didn't care whether I was robbed or not. She just wanted to get off from work. When I went back to my apartment, I took a good look around and realized that I hadn't been robbed. So then I began to think and that's when it occured to me that the staff had let pest control in my apartment and didn't bother to close the door. When I told the Manager and Assistant Manager this, they admitted that this was the case. However, they tried to defend themselves by saying that it was a problem with the key...the same key I had been complaining about since I moved there. After a few weeks, brand new keys were issued to everyone.
Then there was the upstairs neighbor with the kid and a dog. They kept up ridiculous amounts of noise. I complained about it, but it was a month before anything was ever done about it. As a matter of fact, the "courtesy" officer threatened to ticket me if I couldn't figure out a way to get along with the noisy neighbor. But the final straw for me happened yesterday, July 5, 2005. I called the office and told the assistant manager that my mom was going to be visiting. I asked her if my mom could use the workout room if I wasn't there. She very, very rudely told me that my mom wouldn't be kicked out but that she had to come by the office, tell them she was my guest and she needed to tell them my building number and apartment number. I don't mind rules but I do mind how I'm spoken to. The ASSistant manager was extremely rude and I explained to her that if my mom could use the workout facility, I KNOW she wasn't going to be kicked out. That phrase, "kicked out," in the same sentence when talking about my mom really, really pissed me off. I pay almost $900/month in rent. I'm not excited about paying that much in rent but I did it because I had to. Well, my suggestion to the low class staff at Highland Pointe (particularly the Manager and ASSistant Manager) if you don't want to work in a customer service capacity find something else to do.
