Problems From Day 1

On move in day the carpet had nails sticking out, 1 toilet was busted, vertical blinds were so low the tips rubbed against the carpet preventing them from being used, the ice maker was busted, the washer/dryer was disconnected, and there were screws in the garbage disposal. One bedroom window was installed so crooked that in the winter it actually felt like there was an a/c blowing subfreezing air into the bedroom. We spent most of the summer without use of the central a/c because the replacement parts never showed up. I had to install window a/c units because being on the 2nd floor it was downright miserable. Calling in maintenance orders to the front office would do no good unless you spoke to the manager or one employee in particular. If you spoke to any of the other employees, absolutely nothing would ever get done. They would say, "the maintenance man will be right over" or "he'll be there at 4 pm" and he never shows up. Happened almost every time. One time it took almost a month to fix the toilet that broke again after it was fixed from being broken when we moved in. We had to call in maintenace orders on the average of once every other week for various issues (not including the follow up calls). At the end of the first lease we had the choice of signing another lease or going month to month, which would have meant paying an extra $300/month on top of the new higher monthly rent amount. So I signed a new lease and the following week was laid off from my job. The loss of income required us to move in with family out of state. I explained the situation to management and was told that I had to give a written 2 months notice to vacate and then also pay 2 months rent in addtion to the regular rent. So in other words, after we moved out, they were still getting rent from us for an additional 2 months, and at the same time a new tenant could move in right after us. This means they would be getting paid double rent for the same apartment. Believe it or not, this is actually legal. Those people were glad to (in my opinion) steal money from someone who just lost their job. If you are considering renting from these people, I highly recommend you look somewhere else.
