Review for Tbs Properties Apartments

This apartment building's biggest downfall is its old windows and poor heating system. The landlord recently switched from steam radiators to electric baseboard heat. From what I heard from the previous tenants, the steam radiators never kept the place warm enough, well, with electric wall-unit heaters I can keep the place warm, but not without spending a fortune and sealing off every single window (i used rope caulk), putting up thick curtains. You can turn the wall-units on and off in separate rooms, but cannot control times of day that they run, or what temp they run to (it just has a dial on it with Off-Lo-Medium-Hi), and it doesn't seem to work so well.

My wife and I try to be as environmentally friendly as possible - biking to and from work during the temperate months, recycling, eating a low-meat diet, and not using extra energy. The windows in this place are no match for Chicago's cold winters, and we're taking the brunt of it in our wallets this winter. Our electric bill for the summer months was under $25, but in December it ballooned to $470!

The back stairs are extremely slippery in the winter. Our maintenance guy and gal, while nice people, seem to think that a snow blower is the only way to clear snow and when that breaks we're SOL (anyone heard of a shovel and salt?).

In the summer the unit is great, gets great lighting. we only used an air conditioner in our bedroom a few times when the temp was above 85, and even then we often only used the fan, not the A/C.

Neighborhood is safe, parking is easy, it's a nice looking apartment, if a bit old. If they replaced the windows (or at least put storm windows on all of the windows) and put in Gas-Forced heat, it would be much better.
