Review for West Side Manor Apartments

Sure the rent on these apartment looks nice, but thats about all thats nice. During the summer you are charged $40 extra a month for your air conditioner to "help them cope with electricity costs". An air conditioner would not cost nearly that much even if ran for the entire month!
The so called "manager" is NEVER in her office. You always have to put your rent in the little slot in the door... Mine has been lost more than once and I had to pay it twice. The noise levels outside are terrible, even at 4 in the morning. The cops are always at the apartments to deal with fighting. Even worse the "management" inspects the apartments all the time, about once a month they come in and check out your apartment. It is pretty much like mom and dad making sure you cleaned your room. I once got a violation of lease because there were clothes I was sorting on the floor... Apparently it is a fire hazard. I better get rid of my couch then, it is made of cloth, must be a fire hazard. These people expect the apartments to be sparkling clean. News flash! People living with kids in a small space end up cluttered. It cannot be helped. The management does not know the difference between "dirty" and cluttered. Even worse, no matter what the weather when the inspection time rolls around, they never remove their shoes, and then they expect you to pay for carpet cleaning. More than once I have scheduled my day around them being here to inspect, and they never show. Sure, they say i do not need to be home when they come to inspect, but I do not know these people, why would I just let them roam around in my home? If something did come up missing, I would just be told that they are not liable for break ins. Which brings up another good point. The neighborhood isnt that bad, but there are a lot of car break-ins in the parking lots. I have asked more than once to have an extra lock put on my door because it so happened that the management "accidentally" passed out the master keys. If it wasnt for the chain lock on the door, I would have had some stranger in my home, with my newborn child there. When asking about the lock, i found out that the chain lock was being removed... people arent answering their doors at inspection time apparently. Well isnt that great. I would have one lock on my door with god knows who roaming around with a key. I asked to get another put on, but the "complex cannot afford that right now" Well guess what? I couldnt afford my rent either, but it was part of the agreement for me to pay it, so I did. They wouldnt keep up their part of the agreement to do upkeep on their apartments and keep them safe. Shows how much they just want to make their dollar. Do not even think about living here, especially with kids, unless you want to deal with broken car windows, and drunks outside screaming at all hours of the night.Oh, and dont listen to what "management" tells you either, they broke plenty of promises to me while we lived there. Sure you may have to spend a few more dollars, but its well worth it to get away from this hell hole. (BTW rent is income based)
