Do Not Rent From Broadway

after two years of being released from my lease I got a call from a collections agency informing me that Broadway Management turned me in for $1400 they say I owe them for leaving a mess when I moved. This is the first I had heard of this. The funny thing is someone moved in the apartment the day I moved out and continued to live there for a year. I was cleared and signed a form releasing me of the lease, and never even got security deposit back. Now I am dealing with an attorney over this because apparently the person who moved in left a mess that broadway cleaned up A YEAR AFTER I MOVED OUT.
I have not heard anything from Broadway since I moved out and got a call out of nowhere from collections service trying to bully me into paying $1400 that I do not owe them. Luckily I own my own business and know how collections works.

We are having a similar problem with Broadway Management. My daughter moved out of one of their crappy apartments back in 2006. I co-signed the lease. Now 3 years later, we get a call from a collection agency saying that almost $300 is owed due to damage/something not clean, etc. My daughter got a proper walk-through with someone from Broadway Mgmt at the time she moved out and was released free and clear from the lease (off course she STILL did not get her deposit back) but she has since lost that document. I guess we could pay it since a lawyer would cost more than the amount but this feels like extortion. Anybody got any ideas on our recourses? If so, please email me at cscourts@yahoo.com.
