Review for Berkley Apartments

I lived in the Berkeley Apartments for one year. I was a victim of Hurricane Katrina so we were looking for a place to live when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, but the rent was so high. The owner, Mohammad Iqbal, gave me a discount of rent because we lived on the older side models. FEMA ended up helping us out towards the end of my lease and the landlord, Mohammad Farague, was determined to make me sign another lease and boost up my rent from 750.00 to 900.00 just because FEMA was helping us out. I thought that was absurd. I did not want to live there for a whole year again, because the apartment was too small for us now that we had a growing family and he did not seem to understand that. When things were broken, I asked him to fix it, and it never got done. I had to find the maintenance man myself whenever we had roaches in our apartment, because after I had sent written statements telling management about the problem, they still had not responded and all the maintenance man did was leave the roach repellant at my apartment like I was supposed to do it myself. Now, they are mad because I found a house that is 1000.00 a month but it is only 100.00 more than what they would be charging me there and it is so much nicer, and the landlord is much nicer. I wouldn't recommend anyone to even put in an application there because it would be a waste of your time. I am trying to get my security deposit back and they are still avoiding me. FEMA gave me information to file a claim against them for discrimination because of the fact they were trying to raise my rent only because I received Government Assistance and I am sure I will be taking them to court because they are avoiding all of my calls, messages, and are refusing to call me back. I am entitled to my security deposit back and if I don't get it, I will be going to court to fight for it!
