Review for Auburn Townhomes Apartments

Nice apartment. No yard to speak of (which was expected). Parking wasn't great, with only one guaranteed spot by your garage stall. Good maintenance. Fairly responsive management. No amenities to speak of. That is, no gym or clubhouse. The quality of the clientele seemed to decline significantly after we moved in. That may have been a coincidence, but the first 12 months were fairly quiet, while the second year seemed to be plagued with a lot of domestic issues.

The real problems: a fair amount of crime, ranging from prowlers around the complex, car break-ins (one of which I thwarted), and teen-age drinking complete with passed out teenagers in my yard. But the icing on the cake: a completely ridiculous repair bill post-occupancy for "animal urine in the carpets". They used very low end carpeting, and they hid behind the "animal urine" clause to replace their carpets after each occupant. I regret not having photographic documentation to contest their claims, but without it, the time and effort trying to prove my case would probably have cost me more in the long run. Rest assured, the carpets were in very good condition when I moved out and did NOT suffer from “animal urine” damage.

Final screw-over amount by Auburn: my entire deposit + $400. I will never rent from this unethical group again, nor will I recommend them ever again. I am also going to be sure to spread the word far and wide on their practice of refurbishing their apartments with deposits and post-occupancy bills. I also believe that the only reason they billed me for as much as they did was because they knew that I was honest and that they would get it out of me.
