Don't be lured into signing a lease here just because the initial move-in costs are within your budget. Remember, you get what you paid for...and in this case, it could be a lot more than what you bargained for. The owner/property manager really just doesn't have a clue. The rent is outrageous for what you get (which is a unit in dire need of updating, maintenance, cleaning and management). Her investment of time and money is bare minimum & it shows. She overlooks things that shouldn't be and yet, focuses on the issues that really have no weight. The initial impression derived at from the outside view of the property and its grounds is fairly positive. The location and school district are additional bonuses. All positive thoughts and impressions will be left at your car in the parking lot. The owner/property manager uses eye-catching initial move-in costs to lure & captivate the prospective tenant. Focusing on the little money needed upon move-in may lead one to overlook things like unkept hallways, filled with litter, critters and abused walls, stairs and doorways. Additional oversights may include the smell of pet urine throughout coupled with smell of mold and dirty registers. The dwelling is completely outdated especially when considering the rent being charged (lest not forget the "monthly utility charge" whereas other properties include in their rent; not creatively, deceptively adding it on for trash, water and sewer). Late fees and any court/atty charges are posted to your door, open-faced on bright colored paper for all your neighbors to see-possibly even detailed phone messages at your place of employment (also in hopes of humiliating you into payment). And if your building is chosen that month for an extermination visit, know that no notice will be sent to you before his visit. If you don't answer the door that day when "Maintenance" is announced, the office key will be used to allow entrance to your unit anyway. Hope you aren't sleeping!!
