Review for Olde Mill Lakes Apartments

My fiance and I lived at Olde Mill Lakes for two years, '06-'08. We had problems with the place, like the screen door not fitting in the frame, for instance. It got stuck constantly and would fall off, and we had to call maintenance several times, and they never really fixed it. The bathroom sink would clog because the stopper was screwed in and couldn't be removed without taking apart the whole drain. It would get clogged all the time and they would, again, never really fix it.

Other than those little problems, the management is horrible. They would throw Holiday parties and then act completely unprofessional, especially, specifically, Julie Schaefer. She would spend time making fun of people and making caddy remarks.

I complained one time because I thought the way they dealt with the geese was wrong: they would send out little boys to shoot them with bee bee guns, and one time a neighbor crushed goose eggs with a baseball bat because she didn't like them. I asked if anything humane could be done instead of killing their unborn young, and they told me: "No, that's how we do it. We shoot them with bee bee guns and crush their eggs, cheaper than paying someone to come get them off our property." They insisted on calling me the "Goose lady" from then on.

Then, after we moved out, they told us that we never turned in the keys just so they could charge us $50 for changing the locks, even though they have to change them anyway. They also charged $47 for light bulbs and random stuff like that, $66 for cleaning, even though we cleaned the place like crazy, and then almost $300 to replace the carpets. The carpets were in very good condition for being how old they were. They were two years old before we moved in and we were there two years. We even rented a steam cleaner just in case. They said the carpets were "filthy" and had to be replaced. They sent us one photo of some random carpet with shadows on it and a few spots and said that was proof.

When they sent us our "written itemization", (several days past the 30 day mark of us moving out), they didn't go into detail at all. They just listed charges and didn't tell us why. So when we wrote back disputing the charges, the letter we got back was rude, unprofessional and sarcastic. Of course, this was from Julie. She sent photos of things that were OBVIOUSLY normal wear and tear and said they were "filth". For example, she took a picture of the sink, which was white porcelain with brown marbled throughout it and said the brown was dirt and scum. The fireplace was black, but the paint peels easily, especially when cleaned. The paint peeled in some spots from the cleaning, but Julie took a picture of it and said the white underneath the black was dirt and of course wrote "Dirty fireplace!!" on it. She wrote the word "filth" all over everything and put exclamation points and underlinings and little remarks all over the place. She finished the letter with, "get back with us within fifteen days and let us know your plans or we will send this bill to collections." We called within the time limit and told them we were printing off the photos we had taken of the condition of the apartment after moving out and getting together signed statements from people who helped us clean, and would send them before the end of the month. They sent it to collections anyway. Now we are waiting to hear back from them.

They are unprofessional and rude, and only want to take money from people. This girl Julie doesn't belong in any business where she has to interact with people. If you move in, make sure either A: Jule doesn't work there any more, or B: take video before and after you move in and play it for them when you turn in your keys, so they don't try scamming you and you don't have to go through this crap.
