Review for South Castle Apartments

I lived here in 1995 to 1997 so I don't know if things are different now, but I wanted to share some fond memories. I just called the # and a new woman was on the answering machine named Linda, but when I was there, the manager used to be a lovely woman named Mary Webb.
My wife Erin and I moved into these apartments while I was stationed in A co 57th Sig Bn. We held 3 different apartments in the 2 years we were there. The first was 106. If you drive into th parking lot and turn right, your headlights would have shined right into our living room window. While we were in this apt, we were almost evicted for having a cat. We were also fined like $25 when I checked my oil in the parking lot. According to Mary, "If you lift your hood, you are working on your car and that's not allowedin the parking lot." I bought my first Windows box while in this apt. It was $1700 for the whole setup with printer. It was a Pentium I - 75mhz. I bought it from McDuffs in 440 Plaza. McDuffs chain soon went out of business, but I paid that bill (and missed payments) until I remarried and we paid off all our bills in October 2002.
We then moved to the upstairs apt. It was just to the west of the pool. This was the room we were in when my dad died on 10/21/96. So that would have been about a year after we moved in.
We bought one of those tall, awkward computer desks for the bedroom, so everything was just stacked on top of each other. An aesthetic nightmare. We also made an effort to open a coffee house while in this apt.
Strangely at this apartment, a vagrant knocked on the door and asked for gas money. I had never had anyone beg for money at my front door before. And this was on the second floor no less.
We then moved to another apt on the second floor. This one was on the same building as 106, but at the far east end. We were the second from the end on the second floor. One time I came home and heard a smoke alarm going off in the end apt. I casually called 911 and reported it. Then I walked down to Mary's office and told her that I had called the fire dept. Mary screamed that the alarms go off now and then and it's no big deal. So we raced back up to the apt. When we arrived there were three firemen standing outside the door. One of them was in the process of rearing back his axe. We stopped him just in time!
In that 3rd room, a neighbor car had rolled into my car during the night. We had a major fiasco in getting the smashed driver side door fixed. Because of poor communication and cooperation, the door was replaced, but the paint information was printed on the old door, and no paint shop would repaint the door without it. So we had a white car with a black door until we sold it in 2007.
As I recall, the commute to base was really easy from these apartments. We moved to the Copper Mountain Apartments on Bacon Ranch Rd in 2007, and the commute from there was so terrible, but that apartment was a million times nicer than the South Castle, which was just a step above a slum.

Pets: NO - not even fish.
Kids: No - you are expected to move if you get pregnant!
