Just Wait Till It's Time To Move Out...

I will admit, I liked my apartment itself. The layout was great. However, the people at CMG were so unprofessional that it's hard to be positive about the apartment.

It seems like every time it rained, our ceiling in the living room would leak (and we were on the bottom floor). We told staff time and time again about it, and when they came they simply painted over top of it. So the next time it would rain, the problem wasn't fixed and it would leak again.

The same sort of thing happened in front of my bedroom door. The ceiling started leaking and then all of a sudden a patch of it fell down. Maintenance was called, and they attempted to cover it up, but within hours that had fallen and we were once again left with a hole in the ceiling.

CMG lost one of our rent checks and months later sent us a notice that we owed a certain amount of money. We asked why, and no one could give us a straight answer. Instead, we were given an unorganized spreadsheet of our apartment and were basically told to figure it out ourselves. We finally figured out they lost a rent check, and we promptly paid them. If only they had TOLD us specifically what they needed and why, it wouldn't have been a problem. The fact that no one would tell us WHY we were being charged really bothered us.

They send you notices saying to pay x amount of money in this amount of days, but they don't tell you WHY you owe that money. No one in their right mind is just going to hand over hundreds of dollars without first asking why they're being charged. CMG makes it extremely difficult to find out your charges. You have to email and call multiple times before you are to get anywhere.

To move out, you must first get your whole apartment steamed cleaned, which isn't cheap! For our 3 bedroom apartment, it cost about $200. But, we steam cleaned it, cleaned the entire apartment, and were completely moved out by July 2007.

In January of 2008 we received a notice saying we owed CMG $200 within 15 days. The notice didn't tell us what it was for, just that we owed money. We thought there must be a mistake, we hadn't lived there in 6 months!

We contacted them and were told it was a "move out fee". So in addition to not getting our security deposit back, paying to have the carpets steamed cleaned, we now had to pay even MORE?

We asked what specifically we were being charged for...
- "Extensive wall damage" (aka nail holes)
- "Drip pans in range were not replaced" (they weren't replaced when we moved in either, but they will definitely charge you! I can bet money that they weren't replaced before the next people moved into the apartment, thus continuing the moneymaking cycle)
- "Broken kitchen cabinet drawer" (which none of us even remembered being "broken" because we used it the entire time we lived there without any problems)
- Lightbulb out (So that cost what exactly? $5?)
- "Vertical slat and one blind" (Maintenence tried to fix that for us while we were living there, but it never worked, and now we get charged.)

We were told that these weren't normal "wear and tear" but DAMAGES. As a result, to move out, it cost us $200 (for steam cleaned carpets), $766 (security deposit we never got back), and another $200 (for "damages"). All in all, $1,166 to simply MOVE OUT of an apartment is ridiculous.

Living at CMG is NOT worth all the money they charge you.
