Not The Worst Out There...

After having lived here for 4 years, I can say that there are better places, but much worse places you can choose than Sherwood Gardens.

Pros: Lynn and Marin are probably two of the most wonderful ladies you could ever meet. They're genuinely sweet and care about their tenants!

The complex enjoys seasonal get functions, such as a Halloween trick-or-treat group, followed by a party complete with haunted house in their Clubhouse.

While being strict about their rules regarding rent, they do what we wish most places would do, and cut slack for those who have good track records, while staying tough on the constant offenders.

Staff tries extremely hard to treat everyone fairly, and will listen to your concerns and try to resolve issues in a timely manner.

It's right across the street and within walking distance of the Muckleshoot casino and other entertainment/food. The drive is easy enough to the freeway, and the schoolbus stop is directly outside the front office doors.

Landscaping is pretty nice and right before we moved, they'd repaved and repainted the parking lots.

The amenities are pretty nice, but limited. No fitness area, but clubhouse is free for use, as are the pools. They keep them pretty clean, too.

Cons: The buildings are over 60 years old, and have not seen any major renovations. Needless to say, things break, space is tight, and more maintenance/upkeep is needed. If you call and need something fixed (and it's not an emergency), don't expect it to be done right away. They've got two guys doing the work of five men.

There are some rotten children that live there!! Management is aware of these kids and where they live, but there's only so much they can do (apparently their company requires a certain number of write ups to be made before they can evict due to misconduct).

MOLD!!! My son was pretty young when we moved in and for the 4 years we were there, we thought he suffered from year long allergies. Turns out, he was allergic and sick from the mold all over our apartment, even being hospitalized from it twice. I moved shortly after the birth of our second son, so we decided to move, this being the major contributing factor.

Don't expect the rent to stay the same once your lease is up. If you sign another lease, it jumps up to whatever the apartments are going for to new renters. If you just go month to month, you'll get a notice every 3 to 6 months, making you aware of an increase of about $50 in your rent. Our 600sqft apartment went from $595 when we first moved in, to $800 the last month we paid rent there.

No washers/dryers in the units. My unit wasn't so bad, as I was directly upstairs from our laundry room. However, some tenants felt it necessary to travel across several buildings if their own laundry room was full, to use someone else's, thereby causing a domino effect of people not having enough washers. Luckily, there's a laundromat across the street.

Reportedly, there are issues with car theft and of cars being broken into, though I never encountered that issue in the 4 years I was there.

***All in all, the apartment complex used to be run by a slumlord. I won't deny that. But shortly after we'd moved in, new management took over and completely cleared the place out. The buildings are old and need lots of TLC, but if you have issues at least you know there's a dedicated, caring staff willing to help you with them instead of turning the other way. I would definitely recommend to half the posters on here who've had bad experiences elsewhere to live here. It's definitely not bad, so long as you're not looking for luxury.***
