Rented: From 2003 To 2008

Mayfair WAS an affordable place to live, especially if you didn't mind living in an old (approx. 40yrs) complex with very limited amenities and were willing to put up with troublesome plumbing and rusted out / moldy airconditioning ductwork.
The new owners are doing extensive cosmetic work on the exterior (why they would paint the brick buildings a dark brown in Alabama where it gets Africa hot in the boiling summer sun I don't know) and plan to make changes in the interior also.
With these changes come significant increases in rent (up to approx. $400/mo. for a 1BDRM). Also, cable and water are no longer included in rent so the actual cost to live there makes it much more sense to purchase a home rather than spend the kind of money Engel Properties expects people to pay for apartment rental (especially in this real estate market).
