Apartment Review for Aventura

Well, my husband and I moved in back in June of '06 and immediately started having issues. Our bedroom and bathroom doors would not close because there were too many layers of paint that had been caked on the door and the frame. The leasing office said that they would send someone out to investigate the issue. Seven months later, no one has showed up. The people above us have a dog that they keep out on the balcony. This is fine except that it pees over the edge which means that it runs down the building and into our balcony...gross. The management said that they are not responsible for the balconies and that we need to discuss this with the neighbors. The neighbors don't care. The toilet continuously runs - again, maintenance issue filed, and supposedly someone showed up and looked at it but it has yet to be fixed. The people upstairs and next to us are extremely noisy - especially in the early hours of the morning (3am). We have called the "courtesy officer" like we were instructed to do multiple times but nothing has ever happened. We have also issued complaints in the office but they just tell us to call the courtesy officer. We are finally moving out of here because our house is finally finished. We were told when we picked up our paperwork for moving out that it had to be turned in within 30 days of wanting to move out. We verified this information because our lease said 60 days. They told us to disregard that information because the timeframe had changed. Well, we dropped off our paperwork and guess what...they are telling us that we had to give 60 days notice. Apparently, the person that told us this information no longer works for the company so they just flat out don't care what he said. So, we are out an additional $1200. I think it speaks pretty poorly of them that they do not stand by what their employees tell their tenants and they hold the tenants personally responsible for their mistakes. Whatever you do, do not live here or let any friends. foes or family live here. <P>
