Review Title:   Horrible Place To Live

First off, They didn't show me the apartment before I signed the lease. This is mostly my fault, as I should have insisted on seeing it. Live and learn. The thing looked like it hadn't been cleaned AT ALL. There were brown stains on the carpet, women's undies by the washer, and the apartment smelled like the previous tenants had a pet--and never let the poor thing out to poop. I was able to get the carpet replaced, and quickly, but it was most likely because I told them I have asthma and could not stay in the apartment in that condition due to my health. Then came time for my first invoice! I found out the were overcharging me by quite a bit, and had to have them draw up a whole new lease with the correct amount. If I had been thinking, I would have refused to sign it and gotten the hell out of there! But, I stayed... Every month they screwed something up with either their invoicing or water bills, and every month I would try to get in to the office to talk to them about it, and every month they weren't in the office during their operating business hours. So every month, I had to pay late fees because I couldn't get a simple issue resolved with them before the first of the month. I finally became fed up, and went in to break my lease on the terms set out in my lease agreement. I finally did something smart and had my lease reviewed by an attorney before going in. They tried to make me pay DOUBLE the amount specified in my lease to terminate my lease agreement, which my attorney advised me was very much illegal. Their reasoning was that I was paying for a 60 day notice AND the by-out amount. Illegal, illegal, illegal. You cannot charge a tenant for rent AND charge them to break their lease. It just doesn't work that way. But they oh-so cleverly refused to let me break my lease by the terms in the agreement, until the whole mess got past the first of the month... THEN I had to pay rent for that month, by law, and the by-out amount. As soon as the 2nd hit, the stopped asking for double the amount and just wanted me to pay for the month of february and the by-out. I fully plan on spreading the word as far as I can about their horrible customer service and schemes to extort as much money from you as they can.
