Apartment Reviews for Desert Gardens II
Nice location, greedy management, are not flexible

The first 6 months after moving in, in 2008, maintenance was awesome. They would keep the grounds up to par. Outdoor lights would be fixed as soon as they blew out. They did pest control every Wednesday, then things started to slack. I know the economy was bad so I understood. Someone stole the ball hitch off my truck one night. It was there when I parked it at 3am and gone when I went to my truck at 1pm. The office said they would look at the security tape. after 2 days, they said they saw nothing. another resident was in the office at that time complaining about his bicycle getting stolen off his balcony. I found out that the cameras don't work and I was lied to. There was some shady people living in the building west of mine who put their trash into the BBQ trash bins and always walked around late at night. An apt door nearby got kicked in. It was by someone who asked to use the residents phone earlier that day. At night when I went to my mailbox, I could smell marijuana from a couple areas. I don't care what people do behind closed doors, but if I can smell it outside then there is an issue.
I got internet through desert gardens and it was unstable from day one. it would not work 30-40% of the time. I would lose connection then get it back, sometime shortly after, sometimes long after. All my neighbors said they had the same problem. The office staff told me that they would reimburse me for time it was down. The ones who told me that all of a sudden did not work there anymore. They would not reimburse me. My neighbor tried to get cox (or quest) but when he did he lost all connection with internet and his TV signal.
Remember the lack of maintenance? I took my son to the playground to play. There was dog poop everywhere in the sand. What the ****!! I was really getting annoyed now. The BBQ area went downhill too. The lights there stopped working and I let the office know several times, but they did not fix it. The grill was never cleaned well. It would cook too hot on one side and the other was too cool. I turned it on one night to preheat. I went inside to get my food. When I came back down there was flames covering the closed lid. I turned the gas off and cooked inside. I informed the office of the issue. Nothing was done about it. The residents had to clean it out. I was really thinking they made a lot of cutbacks due to the economy. I got a notice saying rent was going up after my lease expired because the housing market was going up. Funny thing is I heard on the radio that the market went down 7%. I work with a real estate agent. She confirmed this, saying that the market is going down and will for about another year. Funny how most places are reducing rent, but desert gardens is upping theirs. They spent money on a cafe, and remodeling the pool. I think their priorities are out of order.
I get paid bi weekly. If you are one day late on rent (even if you told them ahead of time) they charge you a late fee. Most places give you a couple days grace period. You can be put on a flex plan to pay every 2 weeks, but they charge you for that too.
Karen the (owner?) is greedy and does not care about the residents. She just want the rent the govt pays the military personnel to live here. The office staff seem scared to death of her.
There is more things wrong here but you get the picture. It looks nice from the outside and the inside looks nice at first, then you find all the problems that were covered up.
