Better than Average for a Studio ( over a year ago )

These were nice studios. Well constructed. Heat/cooling is a window unit, which gets expensive - to average it out I tended to turn it off in the winter and just use more blankets. The studios are well laid out - the kitchen in some of the units has a neat, kitchen-table-height breakfast bar separating the living and kitchen so you felt more like you were in a real house rather than a "bachelor stuido".

While it's a college town with the attendant crime, I was single and walked late at night without problems. Management seemed to have a 3-4 day wait list for problems, but they did get fixed. This place is VERY strict on paying your rent on time -- the late fees will kill you, and they will NOT make exceptions, though when my job laid me off, they let me go 30 days over (racking up huge late fees) and did not harass or start evicting me. When I paid up in full the following month, they were nice to me and asked if I was doing okay.

Can't beat the situation for public transport - city bus on Hardy, free shuttle around the Mill Ave/ASU area. There's a lively park across the street, lots of family stuff going on, and it's walking distance to Mill Avenue (about 1/2 mile). Have your groceries delivered or hitch, though -- closest market is an absolute pit 4 blocks away notorious for selling out of date dairy products, the Circle K, or take the bus down to Baseline Road, which was a hassle. If you're a person who eats out a lot, just wander down to Mill Ave and you'll never cook ramen again.

The apartments themselves are very charming. If you're into the 'starving student/artist" vibe, you will enjoy all the trees on the street, the brick buildings, and the general friendliness - neighbors actually sit outside on the lawns and say hi to each other. My life moved on so I needed a bigger place, but this was hands-down the best studio I ever lived in, and I have real good memories of my 2 years there.
