Review for Hi Lands Apartments

I saw the bad reviews, but when I drove by I was fooled by the lovely grounds. I told the leasing agent that I needed to get an apartment quickly and they assured me they could wrap up the application process quickly. I was informed I had to pay them $79, fill out an application, and wait for a quick criminal/credit check. I drove down and dropped off the money and application. They never returned phone calls or inquiries promptly. I had to call them back to check on the status of my application. The agent told me that indeed that the credit/criminal checks went well, but that they would need me to get a letter from an employer. This was not what they initially told me. By this point, we are already a week past the original date discussed. So I get a letter from my employer (main client!) and send it to the ladies. They have a big problem with email, it is too complicated for them, so insist on old fashioned fax. I talk one of the agents through receiving email with an attachment. Finally they have that. Several days pass and again I have to call them to check on the application status. Now the agent says her "boss" wants a recent pay stub -- like I work at 7-11. I get a company check and tax information quarterly. I ask to speak to the "boss" who says that when she called the number on the letter or recommendation "some black man answered". That "black man" is an IT company owner who makes in a month what this uneducated assistant manager makes in a year. I was really shocked! When I attempted to explain the situation to the assistant manager she attempted to cut me off repeatedly and spoke extremely condescendingly. Her main point seemed to be that if I backed out the $79 was not refundable. Needless to say my business is going elsewhere and I strongly recommend that no one rent at this place. They may soon be facing legal action.
