Run-Down Buildings, Dangerous Neighbors, Awful Own

I moved after being physically and verbally assaulted, my life repeatedly threatened, by a group of neighbors. The manager did nothing to help find the people who perpetrated the crimes even though I knew about where they lived, and she said she knew who I was talking about. Rather than help me, she chose to allow the perpetrators to stay free and clear. Meanwhile, I could not stay in my own apartment for fear of my life. My tires were slashed the next morning as well. There are violent criminals and ex-cons living at Amber Grove apartments. There is absolutely no security provided ever.
I should have known I'd made a mistake from day one: my refrigerator wouldn't open. The frig was too wide for the space. It took them 3 days to get me a replacement. That frig froze all of my vegetables no matter where I put them in the frig. It took them another week or so to get me a replacement. This third frig was the worst. There was a yellow sticky substance all over the outside. Inside the frig were hairs, pubic hairs!!!! There were dead bugs in the freezer, and they had put my food back in the frig and freezer right ON TOP OF THE BUGS!!!! The mold and mildew in the bottom of the frig was so bad that I had an asthma attack while I was trying to clean it. I had to threaten to go public with the disgusting and shameful story in order to get a new frig.
The manager (when she's there) is rude and dismissive. You are lucky if your maintenance request is actually fulfilled. The "maintenance" men are ineffective and definitely not professionally trained in any aspect of household repairs. They "fixed" the rotting wall in my bathroom by painting over it. And yes, it was actually rotting (not the first time either, because there were at least 4 patches in the same area). One night a wall socket in my bedroom burst into flame. I quickly cut the power and it went out. How did they "fix" the electrical problem? They installed a new socket cover.
The owners do not care about their tenants at all. You will never be able to talk to someone with any power. The only one you'll ever get to talk to is the lawyer (who is also part owner). And she will remind you over and over that they have no legal responsibility to protect you or your belongings. Very cold, very cutthroat, huge bitch.
The apartments are old and breaking down. Earlier this year a man FELL THROUGH HIS BALCONY!!! Do you want your kids playing in such a place?
There are cracks in the ceilings, and if your upstairs neighbor gets water on his bathroom floor, it will rain in your bathroom from the air vent.
The bathtub drain was always clogged even though I used a hair blocker thingy. They never actually tried to fix the problem, so every time I took a shower, I ended up with 6 inches of dirty water swirling around my feet.
When my next-door neighbor's kitchen sink got clogged, it all backed up into my sink. My sink was covered in ground-up food that wasn't mine.
The "emergency maintenance" pagers never worked. I called about the kitchen sink clog because neither my neighbor nor I could use any water in our apartments because it would all back up into the sink. It happened on a Monday afternoon, and we couldn't get any response until Tuesday after 10 am. I had to stay home to make sure that they would actually do their job. I called the "emergency maintenance" number when my wall socket burst into flame. It took over 24 hours to get a response.
The air conditioner is a wall unit, and likely will not work. The heater is a wall unit, and also probably won't work. Most of the kitchens do not have a dishwasher. There is never hot water. The hottest temperature won't even wash dishes properly. In the winter, it's even worse; then there isn't even warm water. In the summer, there is no cold water.
Parking is a nightmare. I called the tow truck at least a dozen times to remove cars from my spot. I would have just parked in a visitor's spot, but there are only 5 or 6 of those for 109 apartments. Most of the parking is uncovered and there are a couple of spaces that are right in front of an area that turns into a huge oily puddle when it rains. A neighbor had to get her car repainted after living there for a year, because the stuff that kept getting splashed on her car ate through the paint.
I could go on, but I think you can get a pretty accurate picture of Amber Grove from these experiences. Unfortunately, some of us can't afford better apartments with security gates and stuff, but this place is so below average that your $625 rent is absolutely appalling.
