Review Title:   A Good Experience...You Get Out Of It What You Put
Reviewer:   Anonymous
Review Date:   3/29/2006

I lived here from Feb 2004 - Feb 2005...moved out to move into my buddy's house...and I plan to move back to St. Mortiz this summer!

Every place has it's pros and cons. This place was great to me. I had a 3br 2.5bath townhome. The sound proofing was excellent! We never heard the neighbors through the walls and they never heard us. We were considerate and asked the neighbors to call us if we were ever too loud. Come to find out the neighboring tenant had and played a drumset in his room that was on the same wall as mine...and I could NEVER hear it...this is how soundproof the walls are! If neighboring tenants were too loud, all I had to do was ask them to keep it down, and all was settled.

Management was very punctual and pleasant. You have to treat people right to be treated the way you want in return. I never once had to request anything twice of them...and it helps if you go to the office in person and get to know the staff. I did have quite a few maintenance requests, which is to be expected in an older community like this, and ALL requests were filled/completed within 24 hours...but you have to fill out the request slip and turn it into management in person. It is VERY easy to get things accomplished in this complex...if you know how to do it properly...it really takes some decent people skills and yelling gets you nowhere.(hint for others reading this)

The master bedroom is HUGE and both 3rd floor bathrooms are very lardge. The gym and pools were decent and well kept. Security in the complex was good and always present.

Dumpsters are close to every unit, so it's not a far walk to take out the trash. We had NO bug problems at all. Dishwasher died and they replaced it within 24 hours, AC worked EXCELLENT, but can be costly if you run it too much. We had several electric bills over $200 during the summer...but we used the AC like crazy, so it was worth it!

Some neighbors do work on their cars...this sucks, but I understand the need...where else are they going to work on their cars? This is home. We fix our food here and we fix our car here...doesn't that make sense?

Kids in the complex were kind of obnoxious sometimes, especially when riding their motor scooters around the complex...calling security several times remedied that problem, and they're kids...you have to expect it! If you don't like living around kids, move into a retirement community. We all grew up somewhere and pissed someone off, now didn't we?

Upon moving in, I had found that kitchen counter tops had been painted with a semi-gloss latex, which peels off pretty easy. I had to have the counters repainted several times, and had it done at no charge. Painting the counters was a bad call and they need to be replaced...but it's not that big of a deal. The cutting board was nailed shut, and I was told it was because it was made of wood and they had started rotting and having bacteria build-ups. I pulled mine out and it was fine, but understood why...good idea nailing it shut, but it should be removed.

The parking here was uncomfortable, but manageable. 3 of us living there, but only 1 space assigned and one garage. The other car had to park on the street outsided the complex. This was usually a 10-15 minute walk from the car to the unit. However, we stated that we lost our parking pass, sucked it up and paid $100 for a new one, then got a gate remote from some friends that used to live in the complex. So, that fixed that and we didn't have any issues with parking anymore since we were able to park all 3 cars in the complex! They do tow RELIGIOUSLY! I sat on the balcony many nights and watched a fleet of tow trucks come in at midnight sharp. What do you expect? If you don't have a parking pass, you shouldn't park there! Parking is tough enough and residents don't need the visitors taking up all of the spots. If you get towed, then you're the dumbass and you shouldn't get upset! If you have a guest, get a guest pass from the office. If the office is closed, you can call security and they'll hand deliver one to your apartment. My girlfriend stayed with me 4 nights a week and I got her a 2 day pass twice a week for the entire year...without a problem! Guests do have to park in the spots that are marked "guest parking" and they're located all across the complex, on a 1st come 1st serve basis. So, if you have a guest coming over at 1am, you're going to have to have them park all the way at the back of the complex because the best spots were already taken. Face it...when you live in an apartment, you have to deal with over-crowded parking. That's just how it goes. If you don't like it, then rent a house.

You really do have to use common sense when living in an apartment. You also have to understand that there is NO complex that is going to offer you the "perfect" serene community to live it. Everyone has complaints.

I've lived in better places than St. Moritz, and I've lived in worse. Overall it was a great experience and a good place to live.
