Everything Would Be Decent, Only If They Got A New

It really doesn't matter if the apartment is decent or not, it's HELL dealing with such a cold manager. Do not come here if you're wanting any kind of human response from this woman.
My husband and I, newly married, moved in and lived in these apartments for 6 months, no problems ... No problems because we didn't have much interaction w/ the manager. We both work during the day and come home late in the evening. (Manager is not even available when you want to find her anyways.) We were thinking about renewing the contract but contemplating between the month to month or the 6 month lease again because my husband works in LA and has to commute everyday. But decided on the 6 month lease. My husband asks for a 6 month lease, brings the forms home, we sign everywhere that there's an X and then return the papers. This whole time, Edie (the manager) had been nice and trying to help us out when we asked for a renewal. However, 1 week after we had signed the papers, I found out that I had to relocate to LA for my job, too. So, the only reasonable thing would be moving closer to LA and not commuting over 1.5 hrs to get to work and back home. So, when we called Edie and asked to change to a month to month instead of a 6 month, she lets us know that we can do that as long as we pay and extra $1000 for breaking contract. What the heck?! It was just one week ago, but she still says the same thing, smiling at us as if this response from her is not suppose to be upsetting. And then she pulls out our contract and tells us that we don't have a 6 month lease but a 12 month lease! Now that REALLY UPSET BOTH ME AND MY HUSBAND, because we BOTH KNEW that we had NO REASON TO ASK FOR A 12 month, but here she is stating that we signed it. That's when it hit us that Edie tricked us by giving us a 12 month lease and not a 6 month lease when we had asked for a 6 month. This woman knew that we wouldn't read the contract that we already knew in our minds that was suppose to be a 6 month lease. When we confronted her that there is NO WAY THAT WE WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR THE 12 MONTH, her response was "Oh well... that's what you signed." and she just smiled. She didn't even have a confused look of 'I'm sorry'...this was HER FAULT for giving us the wrong paper, but because of what was signed on paper was a 12 month, there's nothing we can do. Even after calling Edie a couple of times to see what our options could be, she just repeated that we can just pay the $1000. She failed to mention that subletting was also available if we needed it! I had to peruse through a copy of the contract to find out about this option and when I asked her about it, EDIE said, "yes you can do that IF I approve of them"...hmmm...I wonder if she'll approve. (rolling my eyeballs) She's more likely to deny the sublet and try to get the $1000 instead. Dang, she knew that we were good tenants and always paid on time...she tricked us to signing a contract that either forced us to say another 12 months or pay and extra $1000 to cancel. This is a cold, heartless, tricky, deceiving, mean, uncaring, apathetic manager that YOU, as a tenant, SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH! MANAGERS MAKE OR BREAK A LIVING EXPERIENCE, and in this case (STAY AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN IF YOU DON'T NEED THE EXTRA STRESS IN YOUR LIFE)
