Bad Management. Horrible Mold Problem. Do Not Ren

I lived in a ground floor studio apartment at The Huntington Apartments. I only stayed for 9 months and chose NOT to renew my lease for a number of reasons.

1) MOLD. There was a leak in my bathroom somewhere & it caused a huge mold problem behind the cabinets in the walk way (the bathroom shares a wall with entry walkway/cabinets. I used my cabinets as storage for things I don't normally need to use. When I needed to grab a book from the cabinet. I was shocked. There was this huge mold problem that went from the top of the wall all the way to the bottom). The Huntington brought in their mold experts to take a look at the problem. They couldn't find the source of the mold (which blatantly was coming from the bathroom somewhere). So what they decided to do was just tear down the wall and build a new drywall. I was shocked-- they didn't want to solve the problem. Whoever moves into this unit will have to deal with a mold problem as well. I've rented for over 10 years at various apartments. I never had a mold problem until I lived here. And all they wanted to do was just cover up the problem. Mold is sporous so it can travel. Well I found some on parts of my carpet under boxes and books. I had to spray it immediately with bleach. When I did my walk through recently, the manager told me I would be possible dinged for the cost of cleaning the carpet. She said that they could possibly just dye the carpet back to it's original carpet color. I advised her it's not a good idea because there was mold there but she said it was amazing what they could do with dye. Also, the people they hired to tear down the wall left a huge hole in my apartment for about 5 days. I have a cat and had to pay to board her--I didn't want my pet jumping in the hole and possibly getting sick from the mold. When they were done fixing the wall. They left a huge dirty mess at my apartment and even tore up part of my carpeting. Still the management believed they could make it look all nice and new with dye.

2) Horrible neighbors -- the neighbors on the same level as my unit were a mother and a teenage son. They have two small dogs and on some weekends, both mother and son were gone and would leave their dogs home alone. The dogs barked all weekend long. No Joke. Even with multiple complaints from all surrounding neighbors, nothing was really done about it. The management gave notices to the tenant but the problem was still a recurring one. My neighbors above me-- have children..they would constantly run in their unit and it sounded very loud.

3) Parking is not well regulated. I had my own parking spot but random people would park in it at times. I had THREE cars towed while I lived there. The people you had to deal with to get the cars towed were a whole bunch of idiots. I had my parking sticker on my car but still they wanted to see my lease-- before they towed any cars away (even when those cars were obviously not tenant cars!).

4) Manager-- staff was very nice but I have to say the manager is very unprofessional. When you make calls to file a request -- she never calls back. I would ask her about that and she would make it like she never got the memo. I had a scheduled apartment walk through with her and when I called her -- she was snotty and said she didn't know anything was scheduled. When she looked at her calendar, she was dumbfounded that something was indeed scheduled! I feel so bad for her. Not sure if they are overworked or just incompetent.

5) They have gates and many times-- they were kept open all night.

This is not suppose to be upscale living -- I realize that for the price. However, I wanted just a relatively clean, safe, and professional managed apartment complex to live in -- and could not find any of these at the Huntington Apartments.
