The Uptown is a high rise complex in downtown Oakland, close to the BART and the club scene. The amenities are reviewed very well. This is a newer building with design thought going into the common areas. Individual apartments are appointed with breakfast bars and hardwood floors. One building is set aside for pet owners. Resident reviews overall like their individual units, but note some difficulties with elevators, city safety at night, and inconsistent experiences with management. San Leandro Apartments occupy a smaller building with 40 total units. Situated in a mixed residential neighborhood in eastern Oakland, the property is conveniently close to the 580 freeway. The apartments are advertised as newly remodeled in a "gated" community with secure parking. Rental rates are well below the downtown locations in the greater bay area. Domain, formerly Domain by Alta, is a new building completed in 2011. Initially, below market rates were offered to fill the building and now rates are commensurate with a downtown luxury location. Residents love the convenient location, close proximity to BART, yoga studio, walking distance to Jack London Square, and the aesthetics of both the apartments and the common areas. This is a downtown location that caters to commercial establishments so some of the restaurants and other shops are not open Sundays. Resident reviews love the place, but some have concerns regarding the original construction, however those issues differ unit to unit. Others disagree with some of the fees in addition to rent.
