Just for the record, I am not an angry tenant who has an axe to grind, so please take my review seriously. While I lived there I just was a quiet renter who never got involved and just looked the other way at problems knowing that I would be moving out soon. I enjoyed a non-confrontational working relationship with the office staff. I usually take the path of least resistance and don't submit reviews and such, but I want people to be warned of their criminal tendencies.
Upon moving out of this place we left it spotless and in perfect condition, we only lived there a little over a year. They kept almost half of our deposit for routine cleaning and carpet shampooing, both of which we had already done. They also charged me for 8 hours of "touch up" painting. Ummmmmm, 8 hours to touch up 924 square feet? Seems a bit fishy to me. All charges are illegal per California Civil code 1950.5. Here's the kicker, they forged the bill they sent me for the carpet cleaning. They took an invoice from 6 months ago and just changed the apartment number on it and expected me not to notice, they didn't even change the date. Well, I got a copy of this invoice directly from the carpet cleaning company and sure enough, the office staff forged the one they sent me, the entire invoice was identical in markings with the exception of the apartment number. I guess they don't realize that is this a crime per California penal code 407(d) to forge with the intent to commit fraud. Apparently they think they're above the law. I am looking forward to proving differently. Legal proceedings are pending.
So now on to living there... the apartment was re-done to look beautiful, but soon I noticed that the workmanship was very shoddy. Fixtures started coming out of the walls, the carpet started pulling up on the sides and the glue from installing the granite was smeared all over the counters and glue from installing the tile floors appeared on the walls too. The walls are painfully thin. I could clearly make out the conversations of my neighbors. So if you live there just know that unless you whisper, your neighbors can hear you. Our downstairs neighbor was kind to keep his stereo at a normal level, but it still bled through into our apartment and sounded almost as loud as it was in his apartment. I will say that the majority of the tenants are quiet people, no loud parties. Having things fixed is a joke. The workers are not given the proper materials and I don't think are trained very well, but they are friendly. The laundry facility is very substandard. I realize machines break, but it was a constant problem and some of the dryers have ruined my clothes. In December they closed the laundry room apparently to install new machines. They sent us a notice that the factory shipped the wrong machines and that the new ones were on the way. So after the laundry room being closed for about 2-3 weeks they re-opened it with the same shoddy machines. When we moved out in April they still had the same old broken down machines, strange. Beware of the pool. Green is not the color the water in the swimming pool is supposed to be. I wonder when the last time the health department was there to inspect the pool? I don't think they would let people swim where the ducks live (and poop). If you ever have to come into contact with the owner, I feel badly for you. He is known to be very cantankerous so while living there I took care to avoid him. When I was turning in our keys upon moving out and having a friendly exchange with the office staff I started to say something complimentary about the apartments and he interrupted me mid-sentence, threw up his hands and started yelling at me. I still don't know why. I just walked away. I refuse to be treated in that manner and his utter disrespect was not even worthy of my breath to combat him. I have never dealth with such unprofessionalism.
Bottom line, these apartments have the potential to be very nice, but the ownership and management and their business practices stand in the way of that.
