Apartment Review for Monterra Del Rey

where to begin,
paper thin walls - you will know everything your neighbors are up to, right down to phone conversations and drawers being opened

Pipes an plumbing - questionable at best, constantly having sinks backup and worse people below us get water running down the walls whenever it rains (they are on a lower floor, how is that even possible) Pipes throughout need replacement, be cautious of parking area too the pipes in there will drip chemicals and rust all over your car which will eat right through the paint

Noisy and thoughtless neighbors - SOme people in here really are decent and we have met a few really nice people, but there are a few that think its ok to have beer pong parties at 2am on a wednesday night on their patio. Also people like to leave the doors propped open in the back to let their friends in, but it also lets in people that steal bikes, stick restaurant fliers on your door and much worse. We actually had someone come to our door a week ago at 9pm looking for money.

Management - this is possibly the worst management company in existence. They rarely get around to fixing problems and when they do its months later if you are lucky. Now this is not the fault of the on site handy man Jesse, he is in fact fantastic and works very hard. However he is one person and they work him into the ground and recently started making him work at all three properties in the pasadena area. Basically they are looking to run him into the ground just like they did to his predecessor. Too bad too, cause he is about the only good thing I have to say about this place. The management company Essex Property Trust is just looking to get your rent check, nothing else matters and believe me when I say they look for any possible way to be as cheap as possible with the exception of any external work which they fix quickly and nicely (trying to trick you into renting with the facade)

What it comes down to is this, do not waste your time with this place or any Essex Property Trust place, and if you doubt this look up other complaints and reviews. I think you will find everyone saying just about the same thing. It is not a good place for a family, at best its good for local college students who need a place they can trash. I made the mistake of moving here so we could have a homebase in the area to search for a home to purchase, don't make the same mistake as me pay a little more and go with an independent rental or another complex/management company

On a final note understand that this company has a habit of not returning deposits, so understand that going in and plan accordingly.
