Review for Riverbridge Apartments

I only lived in this place for 2 months and breaking that lease was a relief even though I did lose money. It's nice to be right across the river from campus and the apartments are okay as far as price goes, but you get what you pay for...or less. When I moved in my apartment had never had a smoke detector and the staff seemed baffled by that. There were a few maintenance needs in the apartment that I was promised would be taken care of in the first couple weeks but weren't the whole time I was there. I'm pretty paranoid since I know about a lot of crime at apartments so I usually keep my bikes inside but when I put one outside for 2 days while I finished moving in, it was stolen from right outside my door where it was locked up. The manager didn't have anything to tell me other than the security guy SHOULD have been there that night. I only saw the security patrol guys early in the evenings but they disappear by the time crime would be taking place.. I felt very unsafe here but I was in an apartment by myself so I think that contributed. The apartments are pretty noisy late into the night since mostly students live here and you can hear people running up and down the stairs all the time and even the door slamming at the bottom of the stairwell. When I found out I needed to break my lease not only did the manager say she couldn't refund the three months rent I had paid in advance for the summer but I also lost my entire $300 deposit even though I made sure the place was spotless, which wasn't hard since I had only been there 2 months. She said she would try to get some of my money back and that they weren't here to take advantage of people but I think that's exactly what happened since she had another renter lined up the same week I was leaving...so unless that person is getting 3 months free rent... Another odd addition to the story is that the manager asked that I keep paying my smud through the whole summer even though I was turning in my keys in May and there was nothing in the apartment, even the fridge was turned down all the way. The people at smud and my family told me that sounded really shady which is how I felt about it so I kept it a couple weeks but then cancelled it since I knew they had a renter lined up and I didn't want an outrageous bill to compound the fact that I lost 3 months rent and a deposit to this place. I guess this place is okay for students but I would recommend always living with a roommate and keep your stuff safe since there is no security here and the way the buildings are oriented makes it easy for crime to take place without anyone seeing it.
