Awsome urban location! Close to the Gaslamp, Balboa Park, public trasport, walking distance to shops, restaurants, Petco Park, Hillcrest & Little Italy. Was also given the OK to paint the apartment studio any color we wanted (but black). Most importantly, this place allows dog of ANY size.(along with all other pets!) Living in San Diego is expensive. But found Cortez Hill Apartments affordable and close to all!

*** The downside to things. There's a lack of communication with the landlord- she does not know how to manage, maintenance is done on the cheap (ie. things will fall apart in days), carpets are steam cleaned when tenant moves out- not replaced (I found myself itching within the month I was living there), the plumbing is a mess (our toilet, shower and sink gets backed up often), there's loud construction starting at 7am six days a week, the walls are thin- so quite often you can hear the television go on, talking, 'bedroom'activities, if you are a non-smoker- living here could be a problem since most everyone smokes- you will always get a wiff of it in your apartment, we had bits of our wall falling apart (one month later no repairs!), rarely the complex is kept clean, no one to keep up with the landscaping, gates are left open, most of the time the complex smells of urine, lack of lighting (one of the aparements were broken into- you can visit the Downtown San Diego Police Department & ask for records of this 2005), drug deals, homeless people sleeping outside the apartments complex, dog crap all over, there is NO security (ie. call box, gates that WORK)..etc.

This place left a sour taste in my mouth. I will never reccomend this place for anyone!!!

The complex is ideal for people who work in the downtown area & students... or for people that don't care about their living conditions.

The manager will try and sweet talk you into what it seems like a good deal.. Do not listen. All it has left me is an empty pocket, headaches, and lack of sleep.
