I lived across the street at Archstone for two years when I saw they were finishing the newer and nicer Portofino apartments just across Friars Rd. It was nice, it still is. It's an apartment complex so the craftwork within the apartments are cookie cutter but okay. I've been here since last August (over a year) and I have plenty to say about this place. Yes it's nice, yes it is a great place to invite friends for a cookout (but not enough guest parking), and yes I do like coming home from work everyday. However there are some major issues with the management. When my roommate's car was getting towed (pass visible in window), the management did nothing to intervene and luckily he only had to pay 60 dollars for the five minutes it took to hook the axle. The policies are complex and cause a great amount of inconvenience. I had a guest over and luckily she got to her car, parked in a guest spot, before the two truck hooked it up. I wasn't aware of the all of a sudden, need to check out a guest permit for a $50 deposit policy. And you can only check it out for 24 hours. The construction took much too long and is still going on so we pay a significant amount for amenities that are not completed. I understand the leasing office is busy with many complaints but they do NOTHING AT ALL to make you feel as if they work for you. There is always an excuse why they can't help you and a reason it is not their fault your car just got towed, the gates are never closed, and your car got broken into. I travel a lot and it is hard for me to move but if I could find another place in a similar location (Mission Valley is great) I would definitely move. I will NOT be renewing my lease.
