My husband and I moved from NC to Cali in April 07, blindly, with no preview of this apartment complex. The only ideas we got about it were from the pictures and reviews online. I am extremely pleased to report that we were NOT disappointed!!!! We live on the fourth floor in a studio apartment facing the courtyard (which is beautifully landscaped and even has a nice fountain that lights up at night). It is always quiet, even on "roudy" tues&thurs nights when college kids are out. There is construction going on near the complex but we have had no problems with noise. They have underground parking, however, spaces are limited so apply early!! Our apartment is beautiful, open with floor to ceiling windows and lots of light, and the kitchen is beautiful. The staff is awesome and maintenance is very responsive. The elevators may be a bit slow but i've not minded them. All in all, this is a GREAT place to live in downtown San Jose!!!!

Excellent Apartment

I lived here from April 2004 to August 2006. Krisann, the manager, and Azalea made the entire time immensely enjoyable. From the friendly people to the wonderful bauhaus architecture, I was completely pleased. The elevators were a abit slow and the designers could have put in two in each building, but aside from that, everything was great. I chose a two story apartment overlooking the courtyard to avoid the noise and it worked like a charm. The noise levels were low, the upkeep was beautiful and the maintenance was fast and efficient. It was a wonderful urban living experience.

33 South Third Not that great...

The Cheers: It's a very clean, well kept property. Everything you could need is within a short walk. The apartments are pretty nice, but I wouldn't say TOP quality. Nice, not great.

The Jeers: Management is NOT responsive. At times, ridiculously slow to get back to you.

If you have an apartment on the 2nd street side, be warned: You will not get sleep on T, Th, F, Sa, or Su! The clubs across the street (Bar adn grill, and tres Gringos) sound as if they wired speakers into your own apartment. After they close, you can count on about 200 idiots yelling and screaming for an extra 45 minutes longer, until the SJPD finally send them off quite noisily as well. I would shoot for the 3rd street side. I assume it's much quiter. (I also guess the previous reviewer lived on the other side. Because to say it's quiet is a serious lie..!!)

Noise problem #2: For as new as these buildings are, you would think they would built in better noise dampering between the floors. Every morning, we heard our upstairs neigbor trample across the floor. For a while, we could swear there was a dance studio above us. That's how bad it can get. Kinda disappointing..

Parking is somewhat of a joke. The garage is not managed well at all, as far a space assignment. (The garage is well kept, and reasonably secure though.....Just make sure to take a shopping cart home to wheel you groceries to the elevator, which will undoubtably be the furthest point from your space...!)

More Luxe Than Your Average Apt.......

I have lived at 33 South 3rd for well over one year now. It's a beautiful - CLEAN - residence with all the amenities that you need: Beautiful kitchen, laundry inside apt., fitness center, Media Room, a/c, huge closet, Berber Carpet, Wireless Internet, underground parking & supernice Management (Krisan).

Considering that it is smack in the middle of all the action and accross from some Ghetto nightclubs, it is super quiet. It can be noisy Thu-Sat when all the clubs and bars close around 2am.

Rent is pricy but - you get what you pay for. Only complaint is the sloooooooow elevators on both sides of the property.

I moved here as a temporary place to live while looking for something more permanent to buy. What a great surprise! The building has won architectural awards and is truly unique, functional, and comfortable. But even more important the people I have met that work here are great. And the other tenants are wonderful, interesting people. It is truly NOT your average apartment building.

Great place to live.

I have lived at 33 South Third for the last 6 months and have found this to be one of the finest apartments I have ever lived in. It was brand new when I moved in. The building does have a grocery store just downstairs, not sure what the last critic was saying. It has everything from the improve comedy house to an onsite laundry valet service. The staff is knowledgable and very dependable, and always around when I have needed something. I enjoy it very much, and while it is higher priced then most downtown, you do get what you pay for!
