We moved in last August (2004) and were pleased to find a good sized apartment for less than $800. THe termites are included in that price. When we complained about the holes in the walls and the piles of dust on the floor from the bugs, the management sent over a maintenance guy to fill in the holes with wood putty. Wood putty!
The other great feature is the Saturday morning car wash at Weinerschnitzel across the street. Every saturday, a dozen men stand on the sidewalk shouting "CAR WASH!" over and over from 9 am to 5 or 6pm. Constant yelling! I wish I could find out where the owner of the weinerschnitzel lives so i could stand outside his bedroom shouting CAR WASH! for eight hours on his day off.
Many of the tenants here don't seem to have respect for the property. There is trash all over the ground and messes in the laundry room. Someone keeps stealing the trashcan by the mailboxes, so the other tenants just throw their trash and junk mail on the ground instead. Charming.
The maintenance man is an older guy. That's not to say that he can't do his job, but you feel pretty bad when you see him hobble over to the ladder to fix something and you're afraid he's going to fall off.
Finally, on the street outside the apartments in the gutter there is a huge puddle of mud and manure from the fertilizer the landscapers use. They just blast it off the sidewalk into the gutter and it stinks. Please don't step in it when you get out of your car. And don't let your kids splash in it like the other tenants here.
If it's after dark, watch out for the broken sprinklers that gush water in all directions, soaking those who don't pay attention. If you attempt to find Stella the landlord to report a problem, try knocking on her door at noon, and she might show up in her pajamas. Watch out for her chihuauha!
I'm looking forward to "movin on up" after my experience here.
