Our Review for Esplanade
I really like this unique contemporary living arrangement within Japan Town and the great coffee and restaurant places all right here. The apartment layouts are modern and well thought out and the semi-industrial location is in a great spot in San Jose. I have lived in all kinds of apartments in various kinds of locations...downtown, on town outskirts, in refurbished industrial and in refurbished historic. Esplanade is better than downtown because it is in a quieter location but it has all the same kind of features. Some reviewers had management concerns but my experience is if you treat people with professional courtesy you get courtesy and help in return.

Cosmetically, this is a beautiful apartment and complex. And the apartments are spacious and comfortable. <P>
I moved in to the Esplanade in mid-2007; and the first thing I noticed was that the shower did not work. Then I noticed that the faucet handles in the kitchen and bath sinks were all broken. I made these repairs myself due to a lack of responsiveness from the staff. The first time I used the oven, it smoked up the entire apartment, and the smoke alarm did NOT go off. There has been very noisy repair work in my building that the staff neglected to inform the residents about ahead of time. <P>
I like this place and I think it could be a great place to live if there were experienced managers on the premises who communicated effectively with residents; and knew how to log and track customer communication and repair tickets. My experience has been that none of the staff know what the others are doing; and a typical response is that I will have to wait until so and so returns to discuss it with them. I believe there is currently a staff of 3 in the office, who seem almost entirely focused on leasing apartments. <P>
Phone calls and emails to the office staff are not returned; and the staff are often away from the office making communication very difficult. <P>
Several neighbors in the complex have approached me with similar experiences. <P>

I have and will continue to recomend this place to family, friends, and co-workers, I have never encountered a single problem living here, and I quite enjoy the area (japan town location). <P>

I've been here 2 years and I like it, I'm surprised to read any opposing reviews, it's so strange how people can live in the same apartment buildings and have such different experiences. The office staff has always been really friendly; I think if you are pleasant to them they will treat you pleasantly as well. To comment on the shoddy building and thin walls I believe this has been severely exaggerated, yes it is an apartment building and inevitably you are going to hear your neighbors, but I know that it is not a bad or poorly designed apartment complex, believe me Im sure of this, I've lived in quite a few dreadful places in my lifetime. The Esplanade is actually a very nice place to live in as far as apartments are concerned and I would without doubt recommend it to anyone looking for a place to live. <P>

I really like living here, it's a great community, the staff is always pleasant, neighbors are friendy. I would have to say that this is one the the better apartment community's I've lived in, if not the best, I have no complaints! <P>

I love living here, I have been a resident at The Esplanade for 2 years now, and I just renewd my lease for another year. I am so happy here, as is the rest of my family, it is so central to downtown, but just far enough away to not deal with the filth, the crime, or the high prices. The property is gorgeous as are the homes, I went from a one bedroom, up to a 2 bedroom when our daughter was born. The staff at the office really helped to make that an easy transition, and followed up with us afterwords to be sure everything was well with our new home. The friendly office staff is really what makes the difference in living here, they always remember my name and apartment number when I call or come in the office, and after putting in any work orders, they have always called me to check in and ensure that it has been completed, and that the work done met my expectations (it always has!). All in all I really do love this place, we won't be moving until it's time to buy a house, and in the meantime we could not be happier living here. <P>
