Apartment Reviews for Oakwood San Jose
Be careful!!!

Let me start by saying this is not my first experience with a Oakwood and it seems none of them are very good with customer service. When you first arrive at the office the club house and the pool area look great, but the whole property does not look this nice.
When we made our reservation we were told we would have to be in a studio for a week or so before a one bedroom would open. Fine, but after moving in we would see many furnished one bedrooms that had no one in them for the whole week. Not sure why we could not of had one of those. Eventually when we moved to the one bedroom it was one of the apartments that had been empty the whole time. Thank you Oakwood for the extra moving! Other that this below are some other problems.
Problem one. We were in a studio for the first week before we could move to our one bedroom. There was a dog in the apartment next door that never quit barking day or night. I complained about it several times and nothing was ever done. This really was not a good start.
Speaking of dogs. It is nice that they allow pets here but there are a quite a few people here who are too lazy or refuse to pick up their dogs poop. There is even poop on the sidewalks. Stupid people! One other thing is they water the grass and plants so excessively that everything is mud. You can imagine where all the mud from the dogs paws ends up.
Second problem was the day I was to move to my one bedroom they told me I was not scheduled to move for 3 more days. After a week in a studio I had everything packed and ready to move. They did get me in a place but they made it sound like they were doing me some favor or something. It was not my fault they screwed up! Like I said above it ends up there had been no one in this apartment the whole time we were here.
The next problem is the apartment itself. The furniture is very old and wore out. The plant looked like it was run over by a car. I always check for bed bugs no matter where we go so here was no exception. As I was checking for bed bugs (which I did not find any in my apartment) a week later I did witness several other apartment being treated for bed bugs. I did discover holes in mattress all over. It looked like someone pulled it down the road behind a car. The ceilings were covered with cobwebs and giant dust balls.
The workout facilities are not bad but not good. There are two TV's in there and are very old, one of witch is almost impossible to see anymore. The machines are quite old, even have rust all over them. Not sure where the rust comes from. Most of the time one to three of the cardio machines will be broken. The weights seem to be OK.
Update 1: 11/20/2010
We received a note at our door about a recent robbery and car break-ins. A woman was robbed walking from her car to her apartment. Also there has been several cars have been broken into in the "secure parking lot." This is a very large community and there is one "security" person on duty at night. I have never seen him out of the office except to smoke. I called the office to see if they were adding more security due to this happening and was told NO! I was told I could make a appointment to speak to the property manager on Monday about it.
The note says "While our in-house security officers are here to observe and report." one would think they would be more respectful of their tenants safety and property.
