Like Living In Hell... Really

The title says it all.. my biggest complaint is how blazingly HOT the hallways, elevators, stairwells and underground parking is. No matter what time of day or night you walk the halls, it is ALWAYS between 80 to 100 degrees in them (no lie, i took a digital laser thermometer through the halls and even at 3 am the COOLEST place was 83 degrees, the hottest was 98 degrees... at 3 am!). there is NO hallway ventilation or cooling in either building (which really sucks because past the heat, odors linger as well... sour smell of sweat overlaid with any or all of the following - cat urine, dog urine (even spotted several places where the residents dogs took a leak on the wall INSIDE the building!), pot, and spilled beer). They recently repained some of the halls in one building and you couldn't breathe for the fumes!

On to safety issues. The present onside security SEEMS to be trying to do a good job, patrolling the halls, walking around outside. no matter what time i go out there (when security is on duty which is only at night) I can be assured an awake and alert security guard is somewhere nearby - it's a BIG complex however and there is only 1 guard trying to watch it all (4 floors plus underground parking). When security isn't there, residents tend to leave entry doors open, unlocked or even block them open... and this isnt the safest part of town the complex sits in... a few blocks from the jail and several gangs (yes, graffiti IS a problem)). Lighting isnt the best... many many burned out lights that go weeks without being replaced, several areas in total darkness (the rear dog walkway is one place, around the entry to underground parking is another)

Parking - as with most complexes - is a problem.... a 1 bedroom gets 1 space and an 2 bedroom gets 2 spaces... sounds fair but when you consider that for the most part, 1 bedrooms are couple rented and there are 2 vehicles, and the two bedrooms are holding as many as 4 - 5 people, each with their own car. There are 2 very small visitor parking areas that are always full. vehicles there tend to belong to residents who have all their underground alloted space(s) used already. People from nearby bars also park there. When the "new" security guard outfit took over a few months back, many vehicles were towed... mostly belonging to residents who refused to use their own spaces, refused to place out their parking permits, or were using the underground parking for storage of disabled or semi disabled vehicles... Management told security i guess not to tow anymore because the problems still persist yet no towing is done. No effort is made to ensure the handicapped spaces are used by people legally able to use them, vehicles sit for months at a time with flat tires and/or expired registrations in underground parking and nothing is done.

Then lets talk about the roach problems... i know, most apartments in this area of california either have roaches or ants, but it seems management is doing nothing to exterminate the little so and so's.. and they arent little roaches either... most are 5" to 6" big!

That's all the bad, just so anyone who is interested could be aware.. now for the good.... The apartments themselves are nicely remodelled with granite countertops, matching black appliances, rather spacious. The apartment's website, http://www.courtatartistsvillageapts.com/ is easy to navigate and well designed... requests for maintenance are easily placed, but several times i and other residents have seen the maintenance people and they knew nothing about requests weeks old...

I think that's all.. i hope this comprehensive review is helpful to anyone considering moving here
