NEVER EVER MOVE HERE!! ( over a year ago )
I live in the Capri building (6th and Broadway). It is awful. I wanted to move out the first month, but I signed a one year lease...bad mistake. The noise is terrible - paper thin walls and ceiling. You hear everything your neighbors are doing. Management has never returned any phone calls concerning complaints. Don't let the nice apartment looks fool you. The management has no class and has no interest in addressing complaints. LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!

I read a couple reviews that said they will steal your deposit. So I asked specifically before moving in and was told, "Oh no, there are always a few disgruntled former residents who trashed their apartment, and then leave a bad review when they have to pay for it." So I moved into The Amalfi (one of the collection apartment buildings) last September, for a 6 month lease.
When it was time to move out, we rented a carpet cleaner, and cleaned everything. Stove, fridge, showers, floors, cabinets, walls, everything was spotless when we left.
The still took almost the entire deposit. In fact when we moved in the paint had scratches on the walls, the carpet smelled so strong of dog that we had to keep complaining for 2 months until they finally replaced it. We left it in better condition than we moved in to.
Also, the first time I took a bath, the manager came and said water was leaking on my downstairs neigbors apartment. So we didn't take baths the whole time we lived there. Then we were charged for fixing the tub on move out because we didn't mark it on our initial walk through. There was nothing to see, even when the tub was full you could not see it leaking. That just shows you the type of rip off you are dealing with there.
Also, the employees are all rude, except the evening manager and maintenance people.
Do not move in here. It's ok while you live there, but on move out it is painful because you're gonna get ripped off.

I just recommended this place to a friend. I live on the alley side (not on a courtyard or common area, which would drive me nuts probably) and love it! Our apartment is quiet except for the occasional trash truck, but come on this is DOWNTOWN Santa Monica, it's a city! <P>
We have lived here two years ((still going) with our dog and everyone is friendly and respectful. Never had a problem getting anything fixed, and they are quick to let me back in when i lock myself out (yeah yeah)! We have two parking spaces and never have too much trouble if we need a third for a visitor on the street. <P>
The Almafi is a lot less institutional than some of the Santa Monica Collections I have been in. I've lived in San Diego and New York and think the Amalfi is one of the best! <P>
