Do Not Trust Them

These apartments are big, and they're relatively inexpensive. But there's a reason.

When I moved into my apartment, tons of things were wrong with it (including the fact that it was dirty -- gunk on the microwave, dirty drawers, etc.). They took weeks and weeks to fix stuff -- so long that they agreed to move my move-in date back a bit. But even now, months later, things are still going wrong in my apartment. I was told that "sometimes an apartment slips through the cracks." Apparently the reviewer before me slipped through the cracks, as well.

I was told that repairs take 48 to 72 hours (to be fair, I can't remember which) to get completed. In fact, here's the actual procedure to get repairs (which you will have to go through many, many times, if my unit is in any way typical): a. Call management and tell them about the problem. b. Call three days later to inform them that the problem has still not been fixed. If you're lucky, someone might come within a week of your initial call. c. Return home on the day of the "repair" to find, likely, that the "repair" has been done in a shoddy fashion that may or may not have actually fixed anything. d. If necessary, call again and tell them the repair was not done satisfactorily, and start the whole process over again.

The apartment complex is extremely quiet. That's the only other good thing I can say about it. When you come and see the apartment you will move into, expect to see a porch that appears to be rotting. (Look under the old carpet if it's still there). If you decide to move in, make sure you understand how water, gas and power are divided up and billed. It's strange, and I've gotten more than one story from them. Then, look very carefully at every nook and cranny and list everything that's wrong with the apartment so you have a record. Finally, expect to spend an extremely frustrating year, or however long you stay.
