I lived in this apartment for two years (2003-2005). As a recent college grad, it was affordable and in a convenient location. However, several things that happened over the two years forced me to leave as soon as the lease was up at the end of the second year. Here were my main concerns:
1- Safety. The apartment has a secured gate, but this is basically meaningless. It is broken frequently, frozen open in the winter, and people wait outside and follow them in if they want in. The parking lots are NOT well lit. If you are thinking or renting here, drive by at night and see how safe it feels. One time the main light on the parking lot at my building broke, and even though I made several requests, it was broken from October to the end of April. I had problems being approached in the parking lot at night when I was taking my dog out - random groups of guys out working on their cars late at night (car maintenance was not allowed but nothing was done about it) would make creepy comments and harass me. I saw police vehicles at the complex pretty much weekly - you should really think about whether you would feel safe here.
2 - Sex offenders. Channel 7 did an investigative report and featured Summitt Ridge. There were SIX registered sex offenders living there despite the office staff's assurance that they ran background checks on all applicants and did not allow people with criminal records to live there. Don't believe me? Read the story at Channel 7: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/4428349/detail.html This was the main reason I moved. I am a young single woman and DID NOT feel safe.
3 - Office staff did not respond to requests. Aside from the security light issue discussed above, I had other problems with maintenance. The stairwells were dirty, covered in peanut shells and often vomit, and were not cleaned very often. The laundry rooms are disgusting and I heard of problems of laundry being stolen. My refirigerator leaked water, constantly. They would fix it, it would be fine for a week, and then it would break again. They refused to replace it so I had to live with this. I had problems with my neighbors being noisy (the downstairs neighbors had frequent domestic disputes in the middle of the night that involved yelling and throwing things against the wall). Nothing happened despite the numerous times I reported this problem.
Despite the location and price, I valued my safety above all else. I moved about a mile away from Summitt Ridge and it was the best thing I ever did.
