Review for Mezzo Apartments

The best thing you can say about this place is there are worse buildings in Denver.

The worst part is the club next door, DC10. It's a haven for thugs. There have been two shootings outside the club in the last two months. I can't tell you how many times I've woken up to the sounds of fighting and bottles breaking in the alley and parking lot. That club is reason enough not to rent here. It's only a matter of time before a bullet goes through an apartment window and kills someone.

The common areas are filthy. The Lincoln street enterance sometimes smells like a dead rat. There is a pipe that's been leaking for months in the hallway.
There's mold growing on the ceiling in the stairway. One or two of the three elevators is always broken. Quite often the door to the "secure garage" is broken and just stays open.

There is one very good security guard. The rest are jokes. There's no way those guys could keep anyone safe.

There are some good things though.
I like the layout of the apartment. The rooftop patio is cool and the gym is ok if you're looking for a minor workout.
I've only had to call maintainance once and they were very prompt and friendly. The staff is friendly and helpful as well.
They will listen to your complaints, but their hands are tied. The company that owns the building will not spend the money it takes to keep the building well maintained and clean.

Parking is bad as some other people have pointed out. But what do you expect? It's Capitol Hill. Parking is bad everwhere in this neighborhood. You can always spend the extra money for a parking spot and never have to worry about it. If you don't want to park in the Mezzo garage, there are private lots nearby with monthly rates.

Bottom Line: This place is OK if you're looking for convenient downtown living. You can walk or bike anywhere in the city. Just make sure your place is not on the same side of the building as DC10. Also, ask about the other people on your floor. Some parts of the building are quieter than others. There are a lot of drunken college kids in this building. The walls are thin so if you have loud neighbors you'll be miserable. If your neighbors are quiet you'll be fine.
