Apartment Review for Aventine Fort Totten

I have lived here for 3 years. A year ago, right after I renewed my lease (through January 31, 2012), the place changed hands and something called Greystar took over assuring us in a letter that everything would remain the same. Well, it didn't. I gave my notice at the beginning of December, as I thought the new rates were getting unreasonably high. I am now -- for no good reason -- being billed for the second part of January at a much higher rent (a nearly $400 per month hike!). Additionally, I am being nickel-and-dime'ed with some bogus "month-to-month premium" fees to the tune of $110. These people are dishonest and I am happy to be moving out soon. The place is full of Section-8 (government subsidized) tenants who litter all over the place. It is also next to a Seven-11 store which acts as a magnet to all sort of rif-raf. Furthermore, most of the time we've got live roaches racing about at all hours and trash strewn all over the place. There is just one elevator in each building and very often it is out of order which creates a true hazard especially for all those severely handicapped tenants who live here and who may not be able to vacate the place should it catch on fire. My advice to anyone considering moving here would be to look elsewhere.
