I guess you gat what you pay for!!!
I love the apartment, but it is out of date and seems like there is no intent to make any repairs:
the windows are plexiglass, the screens have holes in them.
The patch work on the apartments are VERY noticeable!
The cabinets need to be replaced!
The refrigerators need to be replaced!
The people in the main office were very friendly,
and make you feel like they keep up with the property,
they did not tell me that the property manger does not live on site, in fact I have NEVER seen
the guy.
You can only contact him between the hours of 8:00-8:30; and 4-4:30, other than that
call his pager, which NEVER gets you a return call.
The landscape is bare.
People sell drugs inside and outside of the building
Stolen and junk cars are on the back parking lot.
People have dogs in the building.
Need I say more . . .

I lived in one of the BARAC apartments and I'm about to GO. I live in N.W the apartment is 6228 North Dakota Ave. the area is GOOD but the apartment is nasty. I have been living in the apartment for 2 years. it has a lot of roaches and mice in my apartment i hate it! The walls are very thin. I live in a one bedroom and i think all of them are 1 bedrooms and the lady up stairs has 3 kids and a man; and they are very noisy and it will not stop. I feel safe but the apartment is very old and needs upgrading. I also have had sewer water coming from my faucets, very disgusting. I would not recommend this apartment to anyone ever.

My husband and I have been living at 5425 Conn ave for the last year and a half. When ever we have had a problem (minor problems) we would get it fixed right away. The apartment is cosy and we had no insect problems. Barac co is very lucky to have the person working at the office, she is amazing and does everything she can't to make you happy. I guess we got lucky. We wouldn't hav moved from here exept we got jobs in another city. Hopefully we will be as lucky with our new place.

First of all i would like to say that i live in 5425 Connecticut ave and the service there is outstanding. If i have a problem is fixed within 24 hours. Parking is very safe. I was reading some other reviews and i think they exagerate about the issues. Of course that the company has responsabilities, but also we as tenants do, and if u want a good place try to keep it up. I really enjoy living in this building and i would recomend renting from The Barac Co.

I think that Barac is the worst ever, because history is over, they need to upgrade windows, to storm window so that people can heat the inside there homes during the winter. If you should ever be in Southeast stop by their building on 2926 Know Pl. SE it is a disgrace for anyone to live their but people do, when they advertise the building the show the building on Alabama Ave. side Which looks decent. The Maintenance that they have is very poor, maybe he needs to take some tips from William C. Smith because is property is well kept up by his people and they have good customer services skill wish that I can say the same for BARAC. When renting from BARAC you have to be desperate, and then they have the nerve to deny and application, you might as well be living in public housing. BARAC need to gutt out there apartment and renovated them, tenants should be able to live comfortable for what they are paying. Housing need to do some inspection on some of there property especially when children are living on there property.

Stop complaing about this company when is the last time youve caused damages to your property. But you blamed the landlord. Sure the landlord had responsibilites but what yours as a tenants, stop tearing down and start respecting where you live. Its seems everyone that has complain on the web site probably got a big break and then caused problems. Remember the cause of damages are mainly by tenants not landlords. Mice and bugs are being feed by people, need to keep a clean surrounding, try starting with your apartment inside and I'm sure the out side was clean before you moved in because if it wasn't then you would have never moved in.

They don't know when to turn the heat off it's cold and the heat is off and it's only March and it's still cold out but they know how to ask for the rent. Some of the tenants have the halls smelling and leave trash in the hall I was just inform that one of the tenants was rape in the building and there is a lot of activities going on. You can bearly get a parking spot but it suposed to be resident parking and the mice, rats and roaches love it here I wish I could hit a number so I can find a more suitable place to live and the housing is so high it's redicules

I moved into a Barac Apt. over a year ago. I found the apt. appealing b/c of the cheap rent ($599). After living there for several months I began to have a horrible mouse problem (I mean real bad). When I would complain they would send out pest people, but the pest people only put down mouse traps, something I could do myself. This did not solve the problem. While it would catch mice, it did not stop mice form entring my apartment. So I took matters into my own hands and looked for every hole/crack in my apartment and filled it with spakle or put masking tape over it. It took a while to find all the holes (there were several), but after a couple of months I seem to have found all the holes. I agree with people about the rude management, there are total *******. But you get what you pay for. The bottom line is that Barac can work, if you make it work. All you need is some paint, nice furniture, spackle, and some mouse traps.

I've been in a Barac Apartment for two years. Sure, the paint starts to peel on the ceiling and you realize the people who painted the place just took one giant brush and coated everything, including sealing drawers shut, but overall, it's been quite nice. The staff are friendly and relatively helpful.

I will note water problems though. It seems the building doesn't maintain, so much as repair when they can find somebody to do the work. Hence elevator issues, major leaks, and trash disposal issues.

Hopefully things will get better, but be ready to be dissapointed.

I live in 1 of the Barac properties and I like my appartment, the neighbors are nice and it feel like we are all family.I have been reading the others and I was like I am glad I dont live there but our Property Manager set tents up on the side of the building for the children to play , he blocked the Parking lot and had a 4th of July Cookout, and on my birthday my neighbors even gave me a surprise Birthday Party,as far as the appartment , when anything goes wrong all you have to do is call and they come out.

I've lived in a cramped, not so nice Barac Apartment for over a year and I've been pleasantly surprised with the upkeep. now, lets be serious, they are slum lords but I'm a grad student and my place only costs $450/mo. For that price, I've been happy with them. they fix things usually within the week. I have had alot go wrong too, including a leaky ceiling (three times), some bug probs, and a leaky faucet...all fixed within the week. here is a tip, have you building manager call Barac, don't call yourself.

If you think you are getting a bargain with the cheap rent, you aren't. 7611 Georgia Avenue has a ongoing rodent prolem. A man on the 4th floor caught 36 mice last year and 11 mice so far this year, the tenants leave trash in the hall, BARAC does nothing to stop this. The elevator has been out of order any where from 2 weeks to 3 months, BARAC has done nothing to fix this. The walls and ceilings peel year round. If you have any repairs to be done in your apartment, you must do it yourself or wait in garbage and ruins until BARAC sends cheap labor. BARAC will send the maintenance man to do plumbing. BARAC is too cheap to hire reputable workers.
