When I talked to the staff before moving in, they told me this complex was catered toward families/ single adults/ graduate students. When I moved in I found out I was living right across from a Frat party bursting with noisy undergrads. The grounds were horrible here: they kept promising a "dog walking area" that were equipt with trash cans/bags to clean up after the pets, but none were ever installed. Instead, dogs could 'go' wherever, and it was such a "wonderful" thing to walk outside in the morning to the stinch of baking manuer right outside your door and all over the sidewalks during the warmer months. Parking: or lack of. The only building that isn't cramped on parking is the one nearest the office on the south side. Plus, guests have to park across the grounds and walk over b/c of random towing. And good luck if you come home past 9 pm during the school year, b/c heaven forbid there be a parking spot. No, they are all taken up by the 6 cars for one unit living below me. Management: they seem nice, until you have a problem. I left the place in BETTER condition than when I moved in (seriously) and they somehow managed to charge me $170 from my security deposit. They refuse to discuss WHY you get the charges in person, so you write a letter and NEVER hear from them again. hmmm. They just take your money and run. And if you should have a problem with that, Jackie goes hysterical and treats you like the dog crap you've been stepping on the past 2 years you've lived there. Amenities: suck. The pool is fine, but the hot tub didn't work for as long as I can remember. The gym is pathetic. wow, i guess those are the only ammenities...for as much as you pay that is pathetic. Noise: unbearable. I already mentioned the parties, but the car alarm problem kept me from getting a good night's sleep for a few months. The place is also a few hundred feet from the interstate, so ALL you hear at night if you are in a building toward the back (about 70% are) are blowing tires from semi's, sirens from cop cars and ambulances/fire trucks, and about a gazillion cars passing. The walls are also very thin, and the family/living room area is positioned in the front of the unit directly by the walkway where undergrads 'hang out, drink, cuss, smoke' right outside your window while you are trying to simply enjoy a movie you rented with some friends... Also, we had ant problems MORE than a few times, all of which resulted from overgrown trees laying on the roof. You could look out your window and see them marching in lines from the tree branch to the gutter, but instead of the staff cutting back a few trees, we had to take matters into our own hands for 3 months and load up on Raid (oh, living with that smell was just "great"; you could taste it while you'd eat). I do have to give a little credit to the staff. After 3 months during the 2nd episode with the ants, they finally came up to the apartment and put one vial of ant killer downstairs in the window, where we never had an ant problem to begin with...so the ants persisted upstairs and we kept killing them ourselves... sad... did i mention that I had HOT water lines connected to one of my toilets...those were fun utility bills! The washer and dryer are in the kitchen - that's just stupid. Plus, they are very small capacity. The carpet is the crappiest stuff, and it actually gives me a rash if I sit on it too long. I'm getting tired of complaining about the place. Summary: for what they are charging, you aren't getting CRAP! The money just goes straight into their pockets. I live a Magnolia Place now. It's about the same cost but it is actually LUXURY living. I love the new place. If you are wanting a townhome, look at Magnolia Place - best in the city, fair pricing, they are renting out, LOVE IT.
