I lived at Sun Bay for two years. The apartments tend to attract medical students from Shands, as well as a few families and retirees. Contrary to their claims, the apartments are a 20-25 minute walk accross a major thoroughfare to get to Shands. The apartments were built in the 1960s, so as you might have already guessed there are chronic problems with many appliances, sinks, tubs, garbage disposals etc. They are cheap, but buyer beware, you get what you pay for. Noise complaints are ignored by the office. Your "security deposit" will be confiscated for a hidden cleaning fee. In the past few years I have seen the police at the rental office several times, often for domestic abuse calls, which, I hate to admit are becoming more frequent at this property. Bottom line, if you are serious about finding a descent place to live at a reasonable price, you should avoid Sun Bay and its sister complex Sun Island. I wish there was some other way to put this, but they can't deliver on their promises.
