Over the course of the last 9 years, I have lived in some interesting places, but none could even compare to how terrible it was living at Sun Bay Apartments. The place is a SLUM! The absolute worst part is the complex manager, "SUSAN". She's a two-faced, money-hungry witch. I lived in Sunbay for 2 1/2 years, and I feel compelled to warn others that may be thinking about living there. Susan will act really nice to your face, but she always has another motive "MONEY" and how she can steal it from you. Customer/Tenant Satisfaction/Safety is the least of her concerns.
Here is the deal. I finally moved out of SunBay this past December (2005), but now they are trying to charge me $65 for general cleaning and $55 for carpet cleaning. I'm a reasonable person, I can understand the fee for the carpet cleaning which is spelled-out in the lease agreement, but come on, $65 for general cleaning. This WAS NOT part of the lease agreement. My mom and I spent 3 hours scrubbing/cleaning the apartment the day before I moved out (which was 15 days before my lease ran-out). I'm not kidding, I scrubbed the tub/tile, floors, kitchen counters, refrigerator, cleaned the cabinets with PineSol, Windexed the windows, scrubbed the stove inside and out. We cleaned the place beyond what most people do. I left the place cleaner than it was when I moved in!
In addition, I paid them $400 for my 2 five pound dogs ($200 of it is clearly stated in the Lease/Pet agreement to be REFUNDABLE). They made no acknowledgement of this is the nasty CERTIFIED letter they sent claiming I owe them money for the general cleaning. There is a line that allows for a notation regarding the monetary value associated with the Pet deposit on this certified letter, and it's blank. Needless to say, SUSAN the manager is responsible for all that takes place at Sunbay, and she is really good at screwing people over. Just to make this clear, my 2 dogs are 8 years old and completely non-destructive and potty-trained. The $200 should be fully refunded, no question.
I paid my rent on time for 2 1/2 years straight, and this is what a responsible tenant gets! I dealt with cockroaches of ALL sizes, noise surrounding me from all sides, multiple cars getting broken into (One right outside of my apartment patio door), mold in the bathroom from some leak in the ceiling which they wouldn't fix, a rusty old frigerator, and dealt with SUSAN. It's amazing how such an establishment is allowed to stay in business!
You may ask why I stayed for 2 years, well I'm still asking myself that question. I had a Russian family next door that screamed all the time, the guy above me never slept and was awake at all hours (I think every person I talked to at SunBay felt like they had a giant living above them). I could go on and on...but I think this is enough. This is the only apartment complex that I've EVER felt that is was necessary to publically criticize. It truly is a crappy place to live, but again, the management is the ABSOLUTE worst part. Susan should most definitely be FIRED. She's losing the company money. The strange thing is that you'd swear she owned the place because if you ask to speak to her boss, she talks her way around it saying "This is why I'm the manager, to deal with these sort of things. There is no one else to talk to". What a crock of SH*T! Well, if Susan's boss ever reads this, please feel free to e-mail me. Rest assured, a lawyer and the Better Business Bureau will be contacted if I don't get my $245 back.
