Review for Park Baldwin Palms Apartments

The office staff is nice but not totally up front about money. There are hidden fees for everything under the sun. For example: You have to pay them a fee to pay the utility bill directly to the utility company. Not to mention a fee for rubbish, etc. You have to pay a fee if you have a guest with a pet (several hundred dollars) then they add a monthly fee to your bill which is a PERMANENT fee even if you don't have a pet.

I just watched the YouTube promo video---such a joke. She talks about being 'green' and the carbon footprint, ha! I asked for almost a year for screens so I wouldn't have to run the AC all the time and still didn't get them on all the windows or patio doors. The one they did bring for the patio door was too small so they just leaned it against the doors. We were charged "extra" to have the folks spray for roaches the size of tennis shoes--we were told there wasn't a roach problem. After I sprayed and took pictures of literally thousands of dead ones on my kitchen floor, they sent the people...and the fee started showing up on my bill each month. Again, a permanent "extra" fee.

All in all, by the time all the unknown fees were added to my rent, my rent had increased well over a hundred dollars a month. Another unethical thing was the "promo" award of $500. We got the promo but they added just enough "introductory" fees that happened to add up to, you guessed it, $500+.

by the way...our air conditioner was broken for days in 97 degree weather (remember---we couldn't open the windows because of the horrendous mosquitoes from the swamp next door) and it got way over 100 in the apartment. The maintenance guy told us it was new so it couldn't be broken. I asked him to check the compressor and the freon THEN the said it was probably broken but IT WOULDN'T BE BROKEN IF WE DIDN'T USE IT!!! DUH! I showed him a thermometer of the 113 degrees it was in our living room.

If you rent here...check your smoke detectors, too. Our smoke detector consisted of two wires hanging out of the wall. I asked for a new one so after a month we got a stick-on one. No batteries or guts. Just the case. Kinda like sticking a jar lid to the wall and calling it a smoke detector.

If you choose these apartments...get everything in writing, keep copies and make sure you give your notice of evacuation more than 60 days in advance. Take pictures of all walls, cabinets, appliances, etc. when you move in to prove the condition when you move out. Replace your drip pans on the stove from WalMart ($10) or they will charge you about $40.

Best advice...keep looking unless you don't have ANY other choice.
