Going down hill fast with a condo conversion

Becareful getting duped into buying a condo here! The walls are so thin they don't keep out any noise, the cheap cabinets are peeling, and both bathroom sinks broke. They don't respond to maintenance issues timely, the management is rude, and the sales people lie. The gate breaks going in and out, so routinely the incoming gate is wide open for weeks at a time. When the outgoing gate breaks, rather than leave it open, it's sealed shut so that you either have to go out the entrance or drive around the entire community to the other side. Either way, there's no warning until you get your car all the way up to the gate, then have to back up and turn around, possibly with another car behind you! My smoke detector started shrilling beeping at midnight and continued through the night. I was set up so that only maintenance could fix it. I called the message service and let them know. At 11:30 the next morning I called again (still beeping- no sleep!), and they said they got the message, but it wasn't a priority. They originally wanted $193K for my 2BR/2BA apartment- within 4 months I received a second offer to see for $165K (wow, all other real estate is increasing in price like crazy around here)! Just a note: if you really want to spend your money, but housing costs have you down, shop around in the area, or wait for a better deal. Panther Trace was selling brand new larger townhouses for $165K in the last couple months. There are a lot of people I work with who live or lived in this complex because it's very close to my office. I don't know a single person who plans to buy. My understanding is that the very few sales they have managed have come from outside people, since it's hard to sell to people who have experienced the poor quality that living here truly provides. Looks good from the outside, but that's just a shell! <P>
