I lived in Jefferson Pointe for one semester while attending FSU. I am a serious student and a neat-nik, and after filling out a roommate-matching form, was put in with three gun-toting, tatoo-covered thugs who were dealing cocaine out of the apartement and blaring rap music 24/7.
When I moved in my apartment was filthy, and the bed was so disgusting (and covered with animal hair) I had to have it removed (I'm allergic to pets). Despite making daily phone calls to management, it took over 3 weeks to get a bed in the apartment, and I had to sleep on the floor. The carpeting on the floor was practically black with dirt, and wasn't replaced for over a month. And the bathroom- wow. I went through numerous large bottles of Lysol trying to clean it. And the previous resident had left their filthy stuff in the drawers of the desk and dresser. Maintenance was basically useless whenever there was a problem. Of course, when I signed my lease, I was told that I would be moving into a room that had been cleaned, and freshly painted and re-carpeted. What a joke.
Also, the place is a ghetto. Several times, the were shootings in the apartments, and cops came swarming into the place. The "security" is a joke. There were always thugs playing loud rap music outside late at night/early in the morning, and the walls would shake from parties going on at buildings across the street- and there were ALWAYS parties.
It's not really safe to walk around at night because there are always groups of high or drunk punks getting into fights, and they all seem to carry weapons. There are always people getting roughed up and robbed, and vandalism is endemic. My motorcycle tires were both slashed while I lived there. I'm a slight guy, and my "neighbors" would eye me when I walked around alone after dark. For the first time in my life I started looking into buying a gun for self-defense. I ended up settling for a police baton and a can of mace.
Drugs are EVERYWHERE, and a guy living in the room beneath mine set his apartment on fire at 3 in the morning trying to make them. My room smelled acrid from the smoke for a month afterward, and the guy wasn't ever evicted, even though the fire department had to come and put out the flames.
This isn't a good place to be if you value your own safety, and forget studying. And forget studying there- I ended up doing all my studying at the school library because it was impossible to work at the apartment.
