This may be a little controversial. I met my husband in Lake Lanier Club apts. He was visiting his mom. He lived in downtown Atlanta. We hit it off then we got married after I became pregnant. The apts would not let him move in. In fact they banned him from ever coming inside the gates onto their property. BUT he didn't do anything. He did not talk to too many people in the apts. or attend events. The office staff found out he was charged as a sex offender. In my eyes he was wrongly charged but still he was charged. He picked up a girl who was under age, to take to her school. Nothing happened but he was charged for solictation, nothing more.
However the law that states they have to be 1,000 feet away from bus stops, pools, playgrounds, etc. was not in effect at the time.
I'm not upset b/c they wouldn't let him live there but b/c they banned him and treated me like vomit. I had many talks w/ the manager but to no avail.
Instead of sympathizing, the staff started watching my apt. I was upset. They sat out every morning and night to make sure my husband was not over. Legally they were not noticable to any body else but they were to me. How many times do they do their job by sitting in the car across from my apt in the garage?
He was banned in Jan. but finally the manager agreed to let him visit...but not stay over nightnot until April.
I had to travel all the way downtown to see my husband being pregnant. He still would not come near the apts. fear of starting trouble.
They still watched my apt. like I was a bad person. We ate out w/ some friends at a pizzeria a week before I moved out. They even had a maintenance guy there watching us. We did not know it until he introduced himself and he knew what apt I lived in and my full name. That was when I got a little frightened. It was going too far. I called a lawyer. And he even let me know that they can't just ban somebody b/c they fel like it. They didn't even do a background check.
I could not move out quick enough. That week I just fed my dog then went straight to my husband's place.
I payed rent every month and on time. I never made loud noise or was an obnoxous attendant. This was my first time experiencing what a sex offender goes through.
Lastly, there are lots of sex offenders out there but didn't sexually offend anybody. I learned more about it during this time in my life. I was looking for sex offender rights. They really don't have any. I would like to point out that there is a difference b/n a sex offender and a sex violator or predator. There is so many charged but did not actually sexually offend anybody. I did not realize how easy it is to charge somebody as a sex offender.
I wish LLC apts could have been more professional and less discrimatory towards us.
They evicted my mother-n-law and watched me like I was a rodent corrupting their property. Again my husband did NOT do anything for them to ban him. They treated me like they could not wait til I moved but refused to cancel my lease so I can move out early. So for the last 5 mths of my lease I technically did not live there but was storing my furniture and things till my moving date. When I did stay a night there nwas always a parked car (same one) at night and in the mornings. What are they doing in the maintenance garage for that long and frequent. They even had a car on the wkends.
Well, now we are renting a house in a subdivision for the past 4 mths. Nothing has happened. We haven't had any problems. But we are 1,000 feet from a school or pool. Unfortunately, the law is back into effect and many people are fighting it. We just want a nice neighborhood to raise our daughter.
