Do not even consider filling out an application here. They will lie, cheat, and rob you to make the sale. I was promised that I would have a unit with a view of the skyline. When I returned to accept my lease, the leasing agent, Deanna, apologized and stated that one with a view would not be available for months. When I asked if I could go on the waiting list for an apt with a skyline view, I was told that they have no way of determining when one would be available. While reveiwing my lease, two tenants came in to complain of infestation. The first girl said that she had lived in Arbor Gates for 4 months. During those 4 months, maintenance had come out 4 times to spray, yet her apartment was still infested. The second person came and said that his apt was full of roaches and that his mail key hasn't worked since he moved in. Upon hearing this, I walked outside and debated whether or not I should continue signing. When I expressed my concern to Deanna, she advised me to not worry and stated that, should I, for any reason, not approve of the apt the day of my walk through, I could just refuse to sign my lease and they would return my deposit to me. Additionally, there would be no penalties incurred for refusing the apt. That being said, I continued to sign the lease and left. I returned yesterday, the day that I was supposed to move in, and asked another leasing agent if I could do my walk through with her as Deanna was not going to arrive until 10 am and I was unable to wait. At first, she refused, however after pleading with her, she spoke to the property manager and decided that they would accomodate my request. As we sat down and began to review the checklist that I was to use while inspecting the apt, I advised her of what Deanna had told me. She became angry and rather irate. She stated that I was misinformed and that she had no clue why anyone would have told me such a thing. She continued to state that there was no way that I could break my lease without facing steep penalties and encouraged me to consider a six month lease, instead of a year, in the event that I didn't want to live there for a full year. I told her that I had no desire to live there any longer and asked her at least two more times to determine what the penalties would be before she finally approached the property manager to discuss my situation. I related my discussion with Deanna to the property manager and told her that I felt that I had been repeatedly lied to and that Deanna was basically willing to say whatever she felt that she needed to say to make the sale. I asked her that she please discuss this with Deanna and advised that I would return sometime between 3-7 to pay the 1 month penalty of $924. Mind you, this amount exceeded the prorated amount that I would have paid should I have agreed to move in. I returned within an hour with the money and asked if I could speak to Deanna. The property manager said yes, however insisted that I provide her with my payment prior to allowing me to speak to her. When Deanna finally came out, I asked her why she would provided me with inaccurate information, to which she responded that she was sorry, that she, indeed was misinformed. When I asked why the leasing agency allows their employees to misrepresent their company and provided deceitful information to prospective tenants, I was met with a smile. Overall, I am currently out $1124 ($924 for the rent, plus the $200 deposit) of which Arbor Gates does not feel the least bit liable in spite of the fact that through their misrepresentation of their own policies, I was to blame and required to pay the penalty. This is an unacceptable business and will not be tolerated. Do not lease from them or engage in any business whatsoever.
